The Real Boards of Canada 23. I took a 1600+mi road trip with my father through rural IL, IA, WI, MN, and Ontario CAN to the “old family cabin.” Staring into the road ahead is like looking into space, through time. I am a time traveler: I see myself at age 8, full of wonder, and now at 41, surrounded by objects and places decaying in stasis. The lack of wi-fi/cell service was a real gut-punch reminder how reliant I am on distraction. Everything changes and nothing stays the same, the pace is relentless. I say hello and goodbye to people I have seen but may never see again. Doors creak open and closed, I chew my serpentine tail for a bit. Time is a circle. This is how I grow and change. I wouldn’t enjoy being a fish very much, so I’m grateful to be alive right now. Thank you everyone who facilitated this trip, and I got to see my younger brother CT too, miss him like crazy.
