How to make a mural in Chinatown? We managed to create a mural in SF Chinatown Ross Alley within 4 days!!! As international students, new immigrants, and other kinds of newcomers, it is hard to find a sense of belonging in a community. That's why we made our stories visible in the public, not only through the permanent installation on an end of the alley, but also a mural showing our vision on the other end. We are happy with how it turned out, and enjoyed the nice days with our neighbors! We’re done scrubbing. We’re ready to start creating. 🏮🎨 After another graffiti violation notice, we realized we were playing a game of Sisyphus—cleaning the same spot over and over, just waiting for it to be hit again. We asked ourselves: Why does our street have to look like this? Why can’t we put our energy into making something beautiful instead? Why can't we have nice things? We’ve been open for just three months, and as an immigrant-owned small business still finding our footing, a mural feels like a luxury. But our neighborhood deserves art, not just "clean-up." We want to fight vandals with art. We’re partnering with the incredible @nonalienbox to transform our metal gate into a permanent piece of public art on Waverly Place. They’ve graciously offered a really reduced rate to help us, but we still need to raise $1,000 for materials and artist commissions. 小红退休了。 它一直是我们看不见的第四位成员。 驮着一个又一个沉重的报箱，在整个旧金山跑来跑去， 带我们去看海，去参展，去搬家，去旅行。 去年这时候，我们在 Portsmouth Square 放下第一个红色报箱， 它很快就被“清理”了。 于是我们用AI写了一个劣质连载小说《短命红箱》放在我们的报纸上。 一语成谶，那只短命的红箱， 和一直在城市里奔跑的小红车， 好像变成了同一个角色。 一个短暂停留但被我们纪念， 一个持续移动却不得不停下。 但正是这些已经过去的瞬间， 让很多事情真的发生了。 如果没有小红， 我们可能很难在城市里到处窜来窜去， 也很难把那些奇怪的想法变成现实。 谢谢你陪我们跑过的那些路。 超凡外星人小队，准备走向下一个篇章。🚗👽 — Our little red car XiaoHong is retiring today. It has always been the invisible fourth member of Non Alien Box, carrying heavy boxes across San Francisco and moving these slightly lost artists from one corner of the city to another. In the beginning, we placed our first red newspaper box at Portsmouth Square. It was quickly “removed.” So we started writing a pulp sci-fi story with AI called The Short-Lived Red Box. Over time we realized that the short-lived red box and the little red car moving through the city had slowly become the same character. One stayed briefly but remembered by us. The other kept moving yet had to stop. Most days were simple— driving, loading, unloading, and driving again. But those small movements made many moments real. Without XiaoHong, we probably couldn’t have wandered through the city the way we did, turning strange ideas into something that actually happened. Thank you for all the miles.
