five years ago, i put oprah on my vision board. i knew that if she ever spoke about water safety, it would save lives, especially in black and brown communities. i dreamed of the day i’d sit with her, maybe even get her into a pool, and talk about the life saving power of swimming.
that dream came true. đź’«
i had the opportunity to share yori’s story with oprah. my beautiful son. the reason i do this work. the reason @nomoreunder exists. this moment is beyond surreal for me, it’s sacred. heavy and heartbreaking, because yori isn’t here. but also full of hope, because his life continues to make waves that protect others.
to the oprah team, the researcher who found our story, and everyone working to spread the message of water safety this summer: thank you. from the deepest place in my heart, thank you.
this is for yori. this is for every child who deserves to grow up safe in and around water. 💙🌊

Thanks to the tremendous support of @repberg and the entire team at No More Under, HB 1750 was officially signed into law by @govinslee on April 25, 2023!!!
Also known as “Yori’s Law,” this bill designates May 15th as #WaterSafetyDay in the State of Washington and encourages individuals who work directly with children to share swim education and promote water safety awareness. Our work is reaching incredible heights and changing lives, but it doesn’t end here. This is just the beginning of Yori’s legacy that we hope continues to change and improve the lives of all children and families!

In honor of Water Safety Month, we’re launching a fundraising campaign to help protect more children around water this summer.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 by June 30 to provide water safety education and swim lessons for 150 kids.
Every donation makes a direct impact: • $50 helps provide swim gear & supplies • $100 sponsors swim lessons for one child • $1,000 helps change 10 children’s lives through water safety education
Every child deserves the chance to feel safe and confident around water. Together, we can turn awareness into action.
You can donate at the link in bio and share this post to help us reach our goal. Thank you!!!

We’re closing out Autism Awareness Month Diving Deep with the President of Disability Advocacy & Support Specialists, Stacey Hoaglund. 💙
Stacey has been a dedicated disability advocate for over 25 years. Children with autism are more likely to wander and may be drawn to water, increasing their risk of drowning, which is why access to the right resources, education, and swim instruction can truly save lives.
This episode is a reminder that water safety needs to be inclusive and that every child deserves the skills to stay safe.

Three years ago today Yori’s Law was passed, marking a powerful step forward in protecting children and raising awareness around water safety.
This bill designates May 15th as Water Safety Day in the State of Washington, encouraging those who work with children to share swim education and promote life-saving awareness.
Since then we’ve seen the impact ripple far and wide. Lives are being changed. Families are being empowered. And our mission continues to grow.
But this work is far from over. Yori’s legacy lives on through every lesson taught, every child reached, and every life protected. 🤍
We had a blast at the @ymcaseattle Healthy Kids Day this year! We love being out in the community connecting with families and sharing the importance of water safety.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and showed support! Let’s continue to prioritize keeping kids safe and healthy. Together, we’re making waves that last far beyond one day. 🌊💙
Swim lessons are an investment in a child’s health and development. From physical strength to water confidence, early swim education builds a foundation that supports both wellness and safety for years to come. 💙

In this episode of Dive Deep, we’re recognizing Autism Awareness Month with Alecia Coleman, founder of Autism Advocates and Aquatism 💙
Alecia started this work because of her son and through his journey, she saw just how critical swim lessons and water safety are.
Children with Autism are more prone to elopement and are at a higher risk of drowning than their neurotypical peers. That’s why access to adaptive swim instruction isn’t just important, it’s life-saving.
Through Aquatism, Alecia is creating inclusive spaces with trained instructors who understand the unique needs of children with autism, helping more families feel safe and supported around water.
You can follow @autism.advocates to learn more and support their mission.
