Two margaritas and one flash tattoo deep, I pull up to District lus for a little boogie. A line-up dripping with nostalgia brings out the lesser-spotted middle-aged Capetonian who likes to talk about the good ol’ days of MK and still remembers the Jam Alley theme song. Nomadic Orchestra set the tone through resonant brass and bounce. The funkiest fivesome. The premiere party princes. And through it all they remain impeccably consistent. I celebrate with a tequila. Daddy don’t disco but mama still likes to rock the hell out. Ask any of the MILFs there for The Dirty Skirts. A near-fatal infection almost took Maurice out a few months ago? Talk trash. The man’s giving peak performance. Their bassist but also their backbone. I celebrate with a tequila, clearly on my own stellar bender. Southern Wild return triumphant, flanked by a new figure in guitarist Conrad Birch. But led at helm by Dave van Vuuren and his emotional intensity. Lock eyes with him mid-song at your own peril. Man will speak to your soul and have you believing we really don’t get out alive. I celebrate with an… uber home because I’m responsible like that. Or am I?

We knew that celebrating 20 Years of Wine of Origin Plettenberg Bay at the 2026 Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival called for a big vibe. And who better to bring it than @nomadicorchestra (swipe to see what we mean) 🥳

On Saturday 9 May 2026, District plays host to three of South Africa’s most honest and formidable live acts in The Dirty Skirts, Nomadic Orchestra, and Southern Wild. There are no gimmicks here, just the raw, foot stomping power of bands that have spent years cutting their teeth in smoky clubs and commanding the main stages of every major festival in the country.
You’ve got the grit and veteran swagger of The Dirty Skirts, whose Indie Rock anthems are woven into the very fabric of the local scene, paired with the brass-heavy, runaway train energy that is Nomadic Orchestra. Rounding it out is the deep, soulful howl of Southern Wild, a band that brings a level of vulnerability and fire rarely seen on a stage. This is a rare chance to catch these three incredible acts together on the same stage, in the heart of the CBD, reminding us exactly why they’ve remained the lifeblood of South African live music for so long.
