In lak’ech is a Mayan traditional greeting that carries a profound teaching. It means “you are my other me” (tu eres mi otro yo).
The concept was used by writer/director Luis Valdez in a short poem inspired by Mayan thought, Pensamiento Serpentino:
Tú eres mi otro yo.
Si te hago daño a ti,
Me hago daño a mi mismo.
Si te amo y respeto,
Me amo y respeto yo.
