Alive. Alert. Awaiting. Moments like this are rare. Maasai Elders have been invited to share their plant medicine on a global stage— in their own voice. We’re one voice there. One voice short. Be the difference. Give anything. Share with three people. There’s nothing to stick your tongue out about when it comes to Acacia nilotica. Well… unless you’re a giraffe. šŸ¦’ For them, this thorny tree is a favorite meal, and their long, flexible tongues are perfectly designed to slip between the thorns. For humans, though, it’s a medicine chest. Acacia nilotica has powerful antimicrobial properties—strong enough to take on tough, even antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA. Even more intriguing? Early lab studies suggest antiviral potential, including the ability to inhibit a key enzyme HIV relies on to replicate. A giraffe’s snack… and possibly one of nature’s most promising medicinal trees, long known to Maasai plant medicine healers. #AcaciaNilotica #MedicinalPlants #Ethnobotany #giraffe #maasai @oloirien.maasai.project @mara_chui_resort @societyforethnobotany

I’m stuck between an ocean and a deadline. I volunteered to write a book for the Maasai about their medicinal plants because I’ve learned the value of indigenous worldviews and traditional knowledge. Donate here: workforgood.com/projects/267185-imaasai-olorien-community-project USA tax-deductible! I wanted to champion that for them - for free. I purposely didn’t want money to enter in the equation. Then our work was recognized by the international Society of Ethnobotany. They offered us not one, not two, but three time-slots to present our work. They awarded my co-author Maasai traditional medicinal plant knowledge holders two of only travel grants to attend. But airfares have skyrocketed and there’s a gap we have to fill. So we launched this fundraising campaign, and USA donations are tax deductible. We wrote the book; we got the invitation; we got partial funding. Can you help fill the gap? Now. There is no later. We need to buy RT tickets and visas because the conference is on May 31. Please help us - donate today : workforgood.com/projects/267185-imaasai-olorien-community-project #indigenous #maasai #ethnography #ethnobotany #societyofethnobotany @mara_chui_resort @oloirien.maasai.project

Nothing compares to being welcomed home by my Maasai family. What, after all, is ā€œhomeā€ but: - a sense of belonging; - a purpose in life; - a safe harbor. Just what Oloirien provides! Thank you!
