“George W. Bush Naked in the Shower Reflecting on 9/11” candle holder based on his painting. In 2003 a hacker published two paintings the former president had made of himself bathing, one in a shower, the other in a bathtub. He began painting after his presidency as a reflection and penance for the war. In 2001, after 9/11, country singer Toby Keith wrote “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” singing “we’ll put a boot in your ass, it’s the American way!” When Natalie Maines, of The Chicks, criticized the song for glorifying war and retaliation, as well as speaking out against the war, Toby Keith started to display a photoshopped image on stage of Maines with Saddam Hussein. Keith was one of many celebrities that led massive backlash to The Chicks and their subsequent blacklisting within the country music scene. Years later, many of those who led the invasion of Iraq would admit it was a mistake. Last week Trump hosted the mens olympic hockey team in the White House, serving them McDonalds and playing “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” during their dinner. This week he attacked Iran. Two days ago the DHS twitter account posted a mashup of call of duty clips and drone strike footage with the caption “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.” . .
