DREAMING EMMETT - a retelling frei nach Toni Morrison 🩵 19/20/21/22.06.2025 HfS Ernst Busch Emmett Till, 14 Jahre alt, Schwarz, macht 1955 Urlaub in den Südstaaten, als er dort brutal ermordet wird. Seine Mutter Maime Till entscheidet sich dafür, ihren entstellten Sohn mit geöffnetem Sarg aufbahren zu lassen und löst damit den Kipppunkt in der Bürgerrechtsbewegung aus. Seine Mörder werden freigesprochen, doch der Geist von Emmett Till lebt weiter, begleitet Generationen Schwarzer Familien, spukt durch das kollektive Gedächtnis der weißen Gesellschaft. Was passiert mit einem Menschen, dessen Leben auf so grausame Weise beendet wurde? Was passiert mit all jenen, die aufgrund rassistischer Gewalt ermordet werden? Warum hören wir ihre Stimmen stets lauter flüstern, wenn wir uns mit Ihrer Geschichte verbinden? In Toni Morrisons 1985 geschriebenem Stück Dreaming Emmett begegnen wir einem Menschen der zurückgekommen ist, um seine Geschichte neu zu träumen. Einem, der noch nicht weiß was er braucht um Frieden finden zu können. Verständnis? Gerechtigkeit? Oder doch Rache? Toni Morrison sagte mal “A dream is just a nightmare with lipstick.” Dreaming Emmett ist beides. Ein Traum und ein Alptraum. Es kommt ganz darauf an, aus wessen Perspektive man schaut. The German premiere of “an imperfect utopia” is coming up: July 25th at the Schauspielhaus of @muenchner_kammerspiele ✨ we also play on the 26th (followed by a concert from our wonderful musician @traceisdreaming ) and the 27th - come follow us to wonderland ✨ @muenchen.tv sat in on our rehearsals - check out this sneak peek of our play. It’s only auf deutsch so I’ve translated below: 📣“If someone is reading this right now…” an imperfect utopia. The new piece at the Munich Kammerspiele explores a queer utopia beyond the here and now. “It’s an international queer utopia, with actors from Poland and Germany, with live music, with jellyfish, with the underwater world… In this play, we try to approach this world and to find different approaches to queerness that mustn't always be connected to suffering. Rather, there’s a world in between, something that everyone could learn from: a queer perspective could open a new world for all of us. The audience is onstage with the actors, and a musician plays live. “In the play, the audience doesn’t sit in the house behind us. The performers and audience come together. I question what happens on a stage when it isn’t quite a stage: when it has a bar vibe, when you can change places, sit on a gymnastic ball…” A unique feature of ‘an imperfect utopia’? It’s the first co-production between TR Warszawa and the Munich Kammerspiele theaters. an imperfect utopia: in the repertoire of the Munich Kammerspiele from next season. 📣
