Part of The Tales of Tokyo, this series reflects my perspective of Japan through what I imagined it to be before arriving.
I always felt like something was different about the city — peaceful, calm, almost too disciplined. But at night, that same stillness takes on a different presence. Maybe it’s just how it feels as an outsider, but there’s a quiet tension that lingers. An empty street, music playing somewhere with no one around — and you start to question where it’s coming from, or if you’re even meant to find it. It leaves you with a feeling you can’t quite place — like something is quietly following you, without ever knowing why.
The direction, the poses, and the use of red and black against the blue hour all come together to amplify that tension throughout the images.
