One morning while it was still dark out I set my camera in front of a screech owl roost. I had a feeling they would be coming back but I wasn’t positive. I hit record and walked away coming back 10 minutes later. It is so amazing to see these owls interacting without any humans around. 🦉🦉

I’m still in awe that a wild owl sat on my finger for almost a whole minute. This Northern Saw-whet owl was captured as part of a research project in Colorado. After banding, weighing and measuring it hung around and took turns roosting on our fingers. What an incredible experience. 🦉

(Sound Up!) 🦉 🔊 While I was watching a family of Eastern Screech owls a Cooper’s hawk landed near one of the owlets. One of the parents flew to a nearby roof and went into a threat display and making a very unique call that I had not heard before. This defensive posture makes it look much larger than it really is to scare away any threat.
