In the middle of the desert 2 hours from LA, 1,500 people are being held by ICE, under miserable conditions, in a facility built as a maximum security prison and being run without permits.
Out of sight, out of mind.
That’s why No Camps California asked my car caravan resistance group Road Outrage LA to make the trek to the California City Detention Center - to bear witness to this atrocity funded with OUR dollars - $130 million/year in the pockets of a private prison corporation.
Unlike other states, CA requires that officials have access to assess conditions in its 8 detention centers. The CA Department of Justice’ report just dropped, and it confirmed our worst fears about CA City: chronic understaffing by untrained and abusive staff, dirty drinking water and cold food, nearly constant confinement, lack of medical care, and unliveably low temperatures; even detainees being written up for cutting the ends off their socks to use as sleeves to keep warm.
What’s meant to be civil detention is being conducted like criminal incarceration. These people aren’t convicts - most have no criminal record at all - but they are being treated worse than prisoners, with less oversight, less accountability, and less access to their lawyers or loved ones - anyone on the outside world.
We went to California City because silence is complicity. And we will keep going back.
The people held in CA City’s for-profit prison are just a fraction of the 73,000 men, women and children that our tax money is paying to detain illegally and treat inhumanely.
If this moves you, check out @nocampsca for actions to take here in California. Wherever you live in the US, take the time to visit a nearby facility and let your reps know that you don’t want them spending your money on these abominations.
It’s cruel. It’s unconstitutional. It’s un-American and unChristian. It’s a national disgrace.
Lest we forget, America is a country of immigrants…ICE OUT.
No Camps CA enacted its first statewide action on May 4th in order to make it clear that California says NO! to Concentration Camps. We are building teams to research and educate communities about how they can hold local government accountable for bypassing permit processes.
There are lawsuits in play right now to challenge the illegal opening of the California City Detention Center that needs all of our support! Please plan to attend the City Council meeting on May 12th - in person or by zoom - to make it known to their elected leaders that their lack of action impacts the entire state! We will not be silent, and we will hold them accountable!! (Meeting details and zoom link can be found at californiacity-CA.gov)
We also ask that you join us in contacting the CA Appropriations Committee to urge them to pass SB995 - the Masuma Khan Justice Act! We need additional legislation that provides over-site and consequences for the inhumane conditions in these Concentration Camps. The bill was passed unanimously by both the Health and Judiciary Committees - we cannot let this bill die!
People like Carlos Mendoza who was shot 7 times by ICE and now sits in the California City Detention Center need proper medical care and access to healthy food and clean water! Stand with us against private corporations like CoreCivic and GeoGroup who are making billions from human suffering! #nocampsca #justiceforcarlos #YESonSB995 #noconcentrationcamps
No Camps California / MC: Moh / NoHo Centro Comunitario & Van Nuys Courthouse defense groups 😍✊🏽
While California’s media and political leaders keep looking the other way, families across our state continue to suffer abuse, neglect, and inhumane treatment behind closed doors. We refuse to stay silent.
We will keep speaking up, posting, protesting, and demanding accountability until real change happens. Human rights are not optional. Dignity is not negotiable.
We say NO to abuse.
NO to silence.
NO to concentration camps, in California or anywhere in our nation.
If this angers you too, don’t scroll past it. Share it. Talk about it. Demand better. Because silence only protects the people causing harm. 🚫⛔️❌👎🏽🤬😡💢

If you have ever wondered what you would have done in Germany during WWII... You're doing it now.
Be on the right side of history and JOIN US in saying NO! to Concentration Camps & ICE terror!
HUGE thanks to @feelyourfeelingsforever for providing the art for our statewide actions on May 4th! #NoCampsCA #Resist #NoConcentrationCamps
In 2026 the greatest existential threat to our democracy is fascism. The danger is real and it is already here. A system of cruelty and lawlessness has quietly festered for decades before finally being helmed by a tyrant craven enough to openly exploit that cruelty to its fullest potential.
Fascists, like other manipulators, fear exposure of the truth behind their lies above all. Many of these facilities are not publicly reported by DHS. Many of these facilities have been openly denied by ICE until under oath. Many of these facilities are not owned by the federal government, but leased private spaces. Those private owners are absolutely subject to the local laws where they own real estate.
We call on organizers everywhere to put aside any differences we may have and work from the ground up to start taking dots off this map. Join in coalition. There is much to do but many hands make light work and they are not as strong as they project themselves to be.
I call on all candidates, and all Californians, to support SB 995 also known as Masuma Khan Justice Act!
There's impending vote to move forward, and here's a sample script to use when you call your state senator:
“California has every right—and every responsibility—to enforce basic health and safety standards in the buildings that operate within our borders. This bill regulates fire safety, sanitation, ventilation, and worker protections. It does not regulate immigration enforcement or detention operations. It simply ensures that every facility, no matter who runs it, meets the same basic protections for health, safety, and human dignity. That’s why it is fully constitutional and firmly within the state’s authority,”

URGENT CALL TO ACTION – NOW, MAY 12th at 5PM PT
Hold California City’s City Council members acountable,
Show up now 5/12 at 5PM. – PLEASE login to attend virtually: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87988480756 meeting ID 879 8848 Passcode: 288834

The elected leaders in Cal City have refused pro-bono legal support that would allow them to use the existing legislation to stop the Concentration Camp from opening – despite repeated offers and passionate demands from CA residents. The ACLU, Delores Huertas Foundation, Dignity Not Detention and Shut Down Core Civic in Cal City Coalition therefore sued the city for allowing CoreCivic to bypass local laws and reopen the shuttered private prison to hold ICE detainees without due process.
The hearing for this lawsuit is FINALLY being heard on June 2nd and TOMORROW, MAY 12TH AT 5PM is the last City Council meeting before the hearing. We need all residents in CA who want to hold ICE and the Federal Government accountable for bypassing state and local laws to attend this meeting and let Mayor Marquette and the City Council members know that their actions impact FAR MORE than the local residents in California City.
