🚫 1.3% is not an emergency 🚫 Historically, the Big Bend Sector is the quietest part of the entire U.S. border. While federal rhetoric has described a “national emergency” to justify waiving environmental protections and seizing private land, their own CBP data tells a different story: ➡️ 1.3%: The Big Bend’s share of total border apprehensions in FY 2025 ➡️ 60-Year Lows: Current apprehensions across the entire US / Mexico border as of Spring 2026 The only real emergency is the threat to our land, water, and historic heritage from unnecessary government overreach. The Department of Homeland Security issued the largest single border wall contract in American history today. $1.7 billion to irreversibly destroy the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park. Earlier this week, the CBP commissioner said they wouldn't build walls in Big Bend, just new roads. But the new contract says "border walls" right on it, and there's no universe where a road costs $1.7 billion. The Department of Homeland Security can still reverse this decision. They can cancel these contracts and reinstate protections. Governor Abbott and Senators Cruz and Cornyn still have time to speak out against this assault on the wildest and most beloved public land in all of Texas. We won't stop fighting for Big Bend. Millions of people are on our side. Our love for this land is more powerful than these corrupt politicians, these billionaire contractors, and the cold dead steel they want to put between us and the Rio Grande.

BREAKING: DHS waives dozens of environmental laws to rush border construction through congressionally designated Wild & Scenic section of the Rio Grande in Big Bend--the incredibly remote Lower Canyons stretch. We're looking into legal action. In the meantime, here's our reaction: "The Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande are one of the wildest places in America—a stretch of river so remote that visitors can float for days without seeing a road, a light, or a single sign of the modern world. This waiver clears the way for DHS to blast roads through serene canyon walls, flood the darkness with artificial stadium lights, and build an industrial barricade across one of the last great rivers in the American Southwest. We will fight this looming catastrophe with everything we've got.” --Laiken Jordahl, national public lands advocate with the Center for Biological Diversity

Voices from Both Sides 2026 🎊 For years, an annual celebration has taken place at the Lajitas Crossing in Big Bend Texas. The border is temporarily opened at the crossing where we then share the mighty Rio Grande with our Mexican neighbors. It’s a day filled with love, dancing, swimming, music from both sides, and community. We know this event is a bit of a drive from Marathon, but we could not recommend it enough! It’s an event that emphasizes the importance of kindness in the midst of uncertainty. Thank you Voices from Both Sides for continuing a legacy of community 🤍 #bigbend #voicesfrombothsides #riogrande #nobigbendwall

We want to take this moment to be loud and clear once again: THIS FIGHT IS NOT OVER. ✊ → Razor wire still sits on the banks of the Rio Grande in our community RIGHT NOW. Monsoon season is coming. That wire will end up in the river where our local river tours operate. → CBP is still planning to build paved roads through Big Bend National Park → A 30 foot steel bollard wall is still planned for the Big Bend sector, from Fort Quitman to Redford. → As far as we know, vehicle barrier systems are still planned for Big Bend National Park Road construction in the national park raises so many concerns: + construction traffic + dust from construction + water needed for dust mitigation + destroying fragile river ecosystems + construction pollution in our river + workforce housing in our communities where resources are already thin + lighting infrastructure that could ruin our world recognized dark skies — and more. Our community deserves answers, not confusion. Stand with us as we continue demanding transparency and due process. Big Bend still needs you. #bigbendnp #bigbend #keepbigbendwild
