This piece has been added into the City of Memphis Movable collection! 18 pieces in total thanks to @urbanartmemphis (who has put together a reception opening Tonight from 5:30 to 7PM at the UAC office & gallery) You can come see all the pieces on display before they start to find their way all over the city, rotating between libraries, universities, city hall, & the airport.
Also some other news in partnership with the Urban Art Commission: I'll be teaching a course on "How to be your own preparator" at the @memphislibrary this summer too! Excited to share and to be apart of their artist workshop series this year. Hope to see you out tonight to celebrate and then this summer to build upon our practices together!
Met so many good people at @theotherartfair this past weekend in Chicago!! Glad to see so many of these pieces find homes there too! Also had a great full circle moment seeing @iso_moe since he helped me with my first wood cut & frame seven years ago, fun getting to show off how I've grown since then. Thank you to @tuttinettyfruity for taking me out & feeding me the whole time too! Always the best of times up there, be back soon
On the Phone w/ Noah Thomas Miller
NTS.LIVE at 10 AM today (my @nts_radio debut)
This program was recorded over the telephone, through voicemails, phone conversations, dial tones, and including a series of songs that incorporate a theme or subject all about the telephone. With songs, sound bites, and messages intermixed, this program traces lines around the world.
It's Spring Pledge Drive this week at WYXR so I'm asking you to show a little love for the greatest station around!! @wyxr_memphis has built the greatest community here in Memphis, it's the center point of so many friendships. Whether it's hanging out on air, going to their festival, stereo sessions, open houses, or just having dinner with the radio on, this station breathes life into my life and into this city (& I know there's so many of you who listen from elsewhere too, & that fact brings me so much joy!)
As of this week I'll be entering my 5th Year on this station & still can't believe it. I've got more than 200 tapes I've recorded & played on air now! It's my favorite way to spend my Saturday nights, and I'm constantly collecting sounds, songs & ideas every single day to put into these programs.
You can catch me at 7PM as always, tune in online or on 91.7FM, listen & donate to hear so many voices & fun all week long too! Found some film from pledge drive a couple years ago with @caitlindoubled when I did "On a Race Track in France" with her when she first started. I could make a long long list of all the shows you should listen to, but I promise if you just tune in at any given time you'll find something of interest (@kodakmomentzeke with the polaroids)
Just a week away I'll be up in Chicago for The Other Art Fair! April 9-12, find me at booth 21 with some big old field paintings, wood cut outs, and new work! Very excited for it, if you're in or around the city I hope to see You! @theotherartfair
Piece here titled "The House Closest to Ours" 43 x 43 inches, engraved piece of Baltic birch wood with house paint
Have some work up in the @artsmemphis Art by Design showcase right now. It runs today through Sunday. Played around with splitting some paintings into panels for cabinets, and I've got some new flower pieces in the works too!
Centerpiece here is a Field Painting 43" x 43" house paint on an engraved piece of Baltic birch. It's a hybrid of a lot of the drawings I did from my last exhibition all in one circle.
So grateful to have been selected for the Midwest Nice Art grant this year! I've already been using these funds to explore the middle ground between painting & sculpture, and I'm eager to start showing between Memphis & Chicago & everywhere in between! Thanks again @midwestniceart
Looking to What's Above Us 23" x 36" house paint on engraved piece of wood. On view currently at @peoria.art.guild
A Field Painting 40" x 40" house paint on an engraved piece of Baltic birch + some models of the houses
Happy Spring! There's another week to see these pieces at the Peoria Art Guild, work is available as well if you're interested
Fragments of Memory 23" x 36" house paint on engraved piece of wood.
Realize it's hard to tell scale on here so I made this wooden banana to photograph next to these pieces so you can get an idea of the actual size. The banana is 7.5"
"Written to a House" (house paint on wood, wax topcoat, and steel plate mail slot inlayed) 27" x 34"
This was the first piece I made in this series, had the idea of inlaying a mailbox into a painting a year ago and had to try it out! (Piece is available)
"What's the Sky For" 23 ½" x 36" House paint on wood + acrylic sculptures & Baltic birch shelves, with a pine frame
This was the main piece for "Remember Yesterday, A Long Time Ago" which opens tomorrow in Peoria! All paintings & small sculptures with shelves available too. Very happy seeing these paired together
