No31 is proud to present Hewn, an exhibition of work by Scottish artist Jake Harvey and Dutch artist Tjibbe Hooghiemstra. Exhibition runs from May 9, 2026 – June 6, 2026 Open Tuesday to Saturday - weekdays from 1pm to 5pm, Saturdays 10am - 5pm. The catalyst for the artwork of Jake Harvey and Tjibbe Hooghiemstra can be found in the whether-worn shorelines of the the North Atlantic edge and the remote Scottish and Irish hinterland. This is artwork that is in large part solitary contemplation - these are the essence of things: of plant, of rock, of sea. There’s a wildness to this ruminative art, an honesty arrived at through the artist’s slow, hard journey across upland tussock and peat bog. Tjibbe, a peripatetic artist who wanted first to run away to the sea as a child, creates astonishing beauty in paintings that seem to be ephemeral, fleeting narratives. Jake, a sculptor of gravity, who grew up here in the Scottish Borders, carving ancient stone to reveal the exquisite, intimate patterns of geological time. @jakeharvey.sculptor @tjibbehooghiemstra @no31studio

Artist talk with Tjibbe Hooghiemstra at No31 Gallery As part of HEWN, Dutch artist Tjibbe Hooghiemstra (@tjibbehooghiemstra ) will talk about his work on Sunday 10th May at 2pm Tjibbe Hooghiemstra (1957) has had exhibitions in The Netherlands and abroad on a regular basis, from the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, to various galleries and art fairs in New York, Basel, Berlin, Paris and Tokyo. His work is collected by museums and private collectors, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Teylers Museum Haarlem, Fries Museum Leeuwarden and the National Collection of Drawing, Limerick, Ireland. Tjibbe Hooghiemstra lives and works in The Netherlands and Ireland. He studied at the Minerva Art Academy (BA) in Groningen (The Netherlands) and LUCA (MA) in Ghent (Belgium). He has lectured at art academies in Great Britain, Ireland and The Netherlands.
