My immediate reaction to the current administration threatening the annihilation of an entire civilization was— well, I don’t even have the words. I am dumbfounded that this would even be possible, but I should know better. I’ve been asking myself what these illustrations mean and why I keep doing them; a few of my friends have suggested they may be therapeutic for me, and I agree. Either way, I’ll keep it up.
I drew inspiration from old propaganda posters and, funny enough, vintage water ski show advertisements for this one. I really enjoyed letting go a little for this one. This Stooges song was definitely on repeat for this one, and the lyrics “Now is the season for war with no reason” just hit home on this one. Enjoy!

Too big to fail! This system is a bloated mess with no accountability and seemingly no way out. Might as well make it fun! I remember when toys would make larger versions of the main characters. It always seemed so awesome, but then no one would ever want to play with it because it made no sense. I had fun playing with the layout on this one. Plus, I took inspiration from X-Men and The Watchmen, along with EK, of course.

Watch those gas prices soar, baby!!! It seems the biggest concern in the US lately is rising gas prices—nothing else, umm ok. The overall execution was my favorite part of this illustration; I like to think my 12-year-old self would be proud of that Transformer-like missile drawing, though he probably wouldn’t be! Overall, I’m really pleased with how this turned out.

Recent events and the Pentagon’s $200 billion request inspired another creative protest. When I heard Hegseth say, “it takes money to kill bad guys,” the phrase just stuck in my head—I had to use that energy somewhere!
I’m truly having a BLAST (pun intended) creating these EK-inspired toy ads! I also experimented with printing on newsprint paper, and I love how it muted the colors to create just the right look, plus the physical print is 👌.

So much in this country, and this world, is not good right now. Perhaps that’s why I’ve had a bit of a renaissance in reading old comic books. I am enjoying all the great ads geared towards kids, so in your face. They’ve been inspiring me. The Evel Knievel ads are iconic (spelling of his name was changed to be “marketable”). I had fun with this piece, especially liked playing with halftone coloring. Hey, gotta do something with this energy.
