IDAHOBIT 2026! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ This Friday, we marked the 2026 International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) with our annual networking event at the Netherlands Residence. The event was co-organized with the Embassies of @ausembgr , Canada, @france_en_grece and the @ukingreece In line with this year’s theme of IDAHOBIT “At the Heart of Democracy”, we offered civil society a platform to reflect on opportunities and challenges they have encountered over the last year. We would like to thank everyone who joined us! #idahobit #equalityforall #nlingreece #bz #genderequalityambassador

Big congrats to @fll_team_archeos 🤖🎉 This weekend, the high school students from @rodenborchofficial competed in the First Lego League Open International Championship, bringing home the Breakthrough Award!   Competing against teams from 56 countries, they showcased a robot they designed and programmed entirely on their own. The students won the Breakthrough Award for their additional innovative project: an app that uses AI to identify archeological finds.   Yesterday, we had to pleasure of welcoming the young innovators at the Embassy, where they shared their exciting experiences with us. @first_legoleague #firstlegoleague #robotics #stem

🇳🇱🇬🇷 What a night! The Ambassador’s Residence came alive in true Dutch spirit as we celebrated King’s Day. The building was lit in orange alongside the red, white, and blue of the Dutch flag. We were honoured to welcome the Secretary General of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Theresa Angelatou, who opened the evening. Proud to celebrate our national day together with so many wonderful guests. Lang leve de Koning! 👑🎉

Today is King’s Day in The Netherlands. The Dutch school in Athens celebrated the occasion on Saturday with traditional Dutch games and of course a “vrijmarkt”. Deputy ambassador Naomi Yorks opened the Games and was happy to join in the festivities of this special day for the Dutch.

The war in the Middle East has also affected European states close to the region. The Dutch frigate HNLMS Evertsen is part of the French led Carier Strike Group that monitors the Mediterranean Sea and assists in the defense of EU member states. The deployment of the HNLMS Evertsen underlines The Netherlands’ commitment to European solidarity and stability and security in the region. It was a great pleasure to be hosted on board the HNLMS Evertsen during their brief port of call in Piraeus. We wish Commander Keveling and his crew a safe journey home. @zr.ms.evertsen

𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬: We recently had the joy of welcoming to our shelters six inspiring student volunteers from the Netherlands. Throughout their visit, the group spent time with the teenagers under our care, getting to know each other beyond borders and backgrounds. Together, they explored the city, shared everyday moments, and connected through sports, laughter, and teamwork. 🌟🌍⚽ We were also honored to meet with the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Greece, Barbara van Hellemond and First Secretary Cees Van Beek at the Embassy (@nlingreece ), for a meaningful exchange on the role young people can play in challenging xenophobia and contributing to more inclusive and compassionate communities. The conversation also highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces for interaction, where young people can meet, share experiences, and learn from one another across cultures. The visit ended with a friendly football match with mixed teams at the Akadimia Platonos court, which was made possible with the support of the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization (@opanda.gr ). #TheHOMEProject #NoChildAlone #ChildProtection #RefugeeChildren #Integration #InsideOurShelters #Opanda #CityofAthens #NetherlandsInGreece #DutchEmbassy

Yesterday the Embassy and @orangegrovegr received a group of business students from the @fontys_hogeschool in Eindhoven and exchanged ideas about Greece and its relationship with the Netherlands, in the field of innovation, agriculture and economics. They have a busy week ahead in Athens. We wish them all the best with all Athens has to offer!

On Sunday Ambassador van Hellemond visited the Sacred City of Messolonghi. A city with a rich history of sacrifice and struggle for freedom. The Ambassador participated in events in memory of 200 years since the Exodus, underlining the importance of freedom for all of us.

What a week this was! Our first pop up embassy on Crete was a big success! Ambassador van Hellemond and her staff members had the opportunity to meet with people from all fields: the local authorities; the agricultural sector with a focus on horticulture; the Dutch community living on Crete; travel organisations and other local services dealing with the 350.000 Dutch tourists, who visit the island every year; universities and research centres, with a focus on research and technology transfer.  Clearly enough opportunities to further deepen the Greek and Dutch relations: especially in agriculture and technology transfer.

We continue our Pop-up Embassy with Agricultural visits. Also on Crete, agriculture is vulnerable to the impact of climate change. New agricultural adaptation practices for increasing water and energy use efficiency are needed. The Ambassador visited the Dutch company Royal Rijk Zwaan in Ierapetra. Rijk Zwaan has been developing vegetable seeds in Greece for over 35 years. We also paid a visit to the Agricultural College of Messara in Abelouzos, where students specialize in greenhouse and hydroponic constructions and cultivations. The Netherlands and Greece will intensify collaboration in the horticultural sector, in particular glass house operations. #popupnlembassycrete
