Ashley and Tony’s wedding day felt like such a warm, joyful celebration from the very start. Ashley got ready in the Presidential Suite at the Hilton Milwaukee, and one of the sweetest moments was seeing their son, Arden, watching his mama with so much admiration while she finished her final touches. The historic decor, ornate woodwork, chandeliers, and artwork made the perfect backdrop for getting-ready photos, her and Tony’s romantic First Look, and some quiet couple’s portraits before the celebration kicked off 🤩 From there we headed to the @urbanecologycenter for their intimate ceremony surrounded by fall florals and candlelight. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour while we snuck in a few more portraits with Arden, who was so excited to celebrate with his parents! And as the sky shifted into blue hour, we made the most of it with some dramatic nighttime portraits outside the venue and near the arboretum before they headed back to the evening festivities ✨ Loved getting to know them and being part of such a meaningful day! From hiking trails to heartfelt vows, CJ & Emily’s wedding day at Glacier Hills County Park couldn’t have been a better reflection of who they are. They first met on Bumble, bonded over their shared love of the outdoors, and got engaged in Iceland on a cliff overlooking glaciers and nesting puffins. So it felt only fitting that their wedding took place surrounded by nature, with vows shared inside the park’s intimate chapel. 🍂 Their dog Willow was part of the celebration too, watching Emily get ready and joining them later for portraits among the fall colors. 🐾 The forecast had called for rain all day but it waited until evening, giving us the perfect chance for some cinematic, backlit nighttime portraits before their joyful petal toss exit. Some favorite frames from a really beautiful day celebrating Derrick and Eleanor. There are few days more significant in life than the day you marry your best friend, and being asked to document that day is an absolute privilege. An evening full of laughter, new and old friends gathered around the candlelight, hugs from college roommates. The way they looked at each other. Grandma on the dance floor, dogs in the courtyard, flowers in her hands, waving to congratulatory strangers. The love that surrounded them. I heard this quote in a wedding speech this summer while attending a wedding and something just clicked for me. It’s those in between moments, the slow passing of time, the quiet beauty of love. That’s why I photograph elopements with so much intention: so we never forget the small things. It’s reminding my couples to slow down, relish every second, and just *be* with each other. Feel the warm sun kiss your shoulders and cheeks as you read your vows. Rest your head on your love’s chest for a few moments. Walk along the ocean and listen to the waves crashing over and over. Intentionally take note of what you feel while you’re feeling it. That’s what eloping is about. If this isn’t nice, what is? What will be seen when the day is over? When everyone in the photographs is no longer here, what stories will the images tell? For Erik and Emma, that story is one of resounding connection. Between old friends and new family, young and old, there was a sense of community that seemed to tie everyone in the room together. It will be a story of joy. Celebrating two people who genuinely care for those around them. It was hard to find a face that didn’t echo that message. Smiles and hugs filled my frames. Their story will be one of intention. The way he looked at her as vows were read aloud, love filling every glance. Her dad writing his speech for the third time, finding quiet corners to gather his thoughts. Her sister lighting up the reception with laughter from stories only a sibling could tell. It’s the kind of story that doesn’t fade with time because it wasn’t built on spectacle, but on something deeper. And years from now, when these images are held in someone else’s hands, they’ll still feel it. The heart of it all, still there.
