On 14 May 2026, the Nitte CupWise initiative was inaugurated at the Nitte University campus in Deralakatte, Mangaluru, encouraging faculty and students to adopt reusable cups during tea and coffee breaks as part of a cleaner and healthier lifestyle.
The initiative was inaugurated by Dr Jayaprakash Shetty B, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangaluru, while Prof Dr Suma Ballal, Chief Coordinator of the SDG Cell at Nitte University, highlighted the health and environmental concerns associated with disposable paper cups and microplastic leaching, encouraging everyone to embrace sustainable everyday practices.
The initiative concluded with participants taking a pledge to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
