Solo show, March 7th, 6-9 at the Sheldon Art Gallery. Excited to be a part of their Spring Exhibitions.
94-ish pieces. Somehow.
This show is a final conversation with mother. It was originally intended to be a shared experience with her. It will now serve as a glimpse into the diminishing returns of caregiving for loved ones battling dementia. These images convey the simplicity, confusion, fear, wonder and repetition of her struggle. This is also a show about working through the grieving process and allowing yourself the space to heal. Stop by if you can. We’ll chat.

March 15th - Workshop in tandem with the Alzheimer’s Association specifically for creatives working through caregiving for loved ones with dementia, but open to anyone dealing with grief and looking for some solutions to help lighten the burden of loss. Sign-up required*

Posting this in lieu of a longer reflection on the process of grieving, as I’ve experienced it. In short, grief is crippling. It refuses to be drawn in straight lines, instead winding itself into tangles that can at times seem impossible to pull free. But grace is a mighty salve. And allowing yourself some grace to move through that pain is a profound part of the journey. There is beauty in the balance. Be kind to yourselves. We’ll be ok.

This is an old one from @sk8liborius . A bunch of folks came through and painted for ‘background texture’ for a scene in some HBO show I’d never watched. It didn’t matter much. Got to paint with my cousin and that’s plenty of reason for me. Paint with your people! Eat well. Be kind.

This past weekend, while i was cleaning out all of my childhood belongings from my mother’s house, I came across my old World Industries hat. I sat for a second and marveled at it. One summer, WI breezed through town for a demo at Oak Hill. If you’re from STL and of a certain age, you’ll remember the spot. That demo gave me one of my favorite memories as a skater. The GOAT (I will physically fight you if you disagree, unless you say Daewon, then we can talk) Rodney Mullen was messing around, playing S.K.A.T.E. with like 7 kids at once. And this kid right here, gave that dude a letter. Fakie, frontside bigspin heelflip. I think they call them rickflips now. I dunno. Anyway, I’m sure he forgot about it by the time they all hopped back in the van, but it’s something that I’ll never forget. **headshake** I was never much for autographs, but I couldn’t pass up asking, after the demo. He, along with most of the team - Kareem Campbell, Fabian Alomar, etc. - were kind enough to autograph my hat. Legends. I’ll post the hat pic in my stories.
