The most functional, highest traffic spaces are often my favorite to design. This one, right off the kitchen in our Los Palos project, quadruples as a laundry room, backpack + shoe drop zone, prep sink, and walk-in pantry. If you are in and out of it a million times a day, why shouldn’t it be completely delightful?

Wrapping what might be Nine Oaks’ biggest week yet. 🥵 Kicked off Monday with our best design presentation to date, walked and measured a brand new kitchen project with some very fun challenges to tackle, did one million site visits to place lights, rugs, sofas, tables, hardware , etc etc during last mile on a remodel and an ADU, booked a photo shoot, went to TWO (!) vendor events in downtown Lafayette (unheard of! we are on the map!), and — maybe most excitingly — approved a bid to transform our falling down shed into Nine Oaks new HQ. Tried for a mental health day to process it all which ended after yoga at 10:30 with the first contractor call.
Married to the hustle, wouldn’t have it any other way. ✨

My love affair with @schumacher1889 started with this bathroom, designed in collaboration with @ginny_macdonald . The texture of this subtle ticking stripe wallpaper (zoom in!!!!) and the oak leaf print from the @mollymahonblockprinting collab not only made the boys’ bathroom my favorite room in the house (🙃), it set the tone for the entire project, and eventually, my studio’s brand.
Five years later, welcoming the amazing @schumacher_norcal__peach into this house (now home office!!) to source fabrics for a VERY fun client project feels like an insane full circle moment in the best, pinch-me kind of way.

Sometimes when you are building a house, neutral materials seem like the right/smart choice. This client came to us with a brief of adding a layer of texture and color to a beautiful but very safe primary bathroom that they had just finished renovating.
What started as “let’s maybe add window treatments and art” evolved into “what if we wallpaper the WC” evolved into “what if we wallpaper the whole thing AND do window treatments and art and paint the trim while we are at it.” Swipe to see the before and excuse the crappy iPhone photos.

Feeling like I can’t let the moment pass without a quick look back on the first year of Nine Oaks. I finished 2025 with so much gratitude for this first slate of clients who trusted me with their homes, an insatiable appetite to continue learning and untangling new problems in 2026, and confidence that — despite the missteps, sleepless nights, and imposter syndrome — this wild path brought me here for a reason and there is nothing I’d rather be doing. ✨

I live and work in a community without the rich architectural history of neighbors like Berkeley or SF. But the homes here still have stories, and design intent, and sometimes there are original features that are worth celebrating and saving — and sometimes repeating. This original John Marchant ceiling is one of those things and so we decided to not only keep it but to mimic it in the other living space. Framing is up and I can’t wait to see it come to life.
Up next, different project, this insanely cute leaded glass octagonal window which the homeowners had the good sense to save, even though it didn’t work where it was. She now lives in the cutest walk-in closet imaginable, and will have a sister in the dining room by the time we are done. ❤️

Possibly my favorite shot of our Los Palos project. Ho-hum chairs get a glow up with @gpjbaker fabric and a FB marketplace vintage rug score that was headed for a bedroom switched directions when the seller said it was her grandma's prize possession and really belonged in a main living space. So here she lives and here she thrives now. Sometimes, if you listen, beautiful things tell you where they want to be. ✨
