💚 When real-world events feel difficult to explain, picture books can help us communicate.💚 First-generation Iranian-American author Nikoo Yahyazadeh brings readers an age-appropriate and tender story of the beautiful friendship between Yasi and Mina, two girls living in Tehran, as they experience the heartbreaking hardships of war. 🌳 This title presents complex topics such as bomb shelter protocol, the effects of war, and the process of emigrating for safety in ways that support "elementary-appropriate discussion," from School Library Journal. Visit your local bookstore or library to read "Yasi and Mina's Pomegranate Tree" from Sleeping Bear Press.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to read one of Marjan Kamali's novels. #thestationaryshop is an epic love story told across multiple eras and historical events. A really important and relevant read for anyone interested in Iranian history or politics.

This picture book written by @danielnayeri and illustrated by @vesperillustration is a heartwarming and tender exploration of Persian culture and family legacy through the traditions of rug weaving. I had to photograph this book against one of the Persian carpets in my own home that has been passed down for generations.

The only picture book I've ever come across about the Armenian Genocide. An important story about what happens when you are forced to leave everything behind. #picturebooks #kidlit #lostwords
