Mother's Day One of the most prominent influences on my life and the spirit that’s infused into of our chocolates is my mother, Katie. Through legacy it was my mother and her mother, my grandma, Terri, that I developed a close, intimate relationship to food, desserts and more generally the mysteries of life. Mother’s Day is a reminder of their influence on every aspect of my life. However, there is also a part that feels like calling attention to and celebrating ‘Mother’s Day’ falls short. We are talking about a DAY....ONE out of 365 for all that our mothers, grandmothers, aunties etc do for and with us. We are fortunate to see it first-hand every weekend at our market stalls. The beautiful connections and bonding between mothers and their children, aunties and their nieces and nephews, grandmothers and their grandchildren. Or maybe a friend or god-mother looking after the little ones for a few hours. And often our chocolates are part of the bonding. Just a little treat. A chocolate lolly, fish, heart or brownie. So, lets celebrate ‘Mother’s Day’ – this Sunday. But, let’s see if we can maintain that energy throughout the days, weeks and months to come. Yesterday was Thanksgiving, a holiday I left behind when I moved to London years ago. Though I no longer celebrate in the traditional ways, I still love to pause and give thanks for all the good surrounding me and Niko B. I'm grateful for my loved ones, treasured friends, my colleagues at the weekend markets and our regular customers who always stop by to say 'hello'. I'm thankful for the joy of doing what I love to do every day: making chocolate that brings a few moments of happiness with every bite.
