A piece on Plečnik’s Stadium in Ljubljana, in the new series of Forum magazine. Forum#1: Inequality The challenges we face are no longer up for debate, we have passed the tipping point. The new editorial team of Forum (2025–2030) chooses optimistic activism for the series What Can We Do? We are convinced that design, research, and imagination can truly make a difference. It is time to move into action. @forummag @architecturaetamicitia @karmenponikvar @cona.institute #nikavanberkel

Happy to announce that our proposal ‘El Arte del Picnic: Between Vines and Views’ was among the finalists for @concentricofestival this year! Located in Logroño’s scenic landscape, the pavilion offers a space to celebrate: savoring wine, views, and community. The long picnic table forms small rooms at its center, reimagining vineyard stone walls with sheds as a contemporary gathering space. The pavilion includes three key areas: a landmark with sustainable lighting, an amphitheater for panoramic views and events, and a shelter for shade and relaxation. Inspired by Saint Vincent, its textile tells the story of the region’s winemaking heritage. The setting creates intimate areas where people can gather, share moments, and celebrate life! #juliettegilson #nikavanberkel #concentricofestival #elartedelpicnic #Architecture #Installation #Vineyard #Winemaking #Lorogño #LaRioja

(un)woven tales focuses on three individuals - Slavica, Vladica, and Irfan - who were erased from the register of permanent residents in Slovenia. Each of them has a unique and painful story of their struggle in their pursuit of justice. Through interviews, the project explores key locations in their lives, places where they sought help, advocated for visibility, and worked to rebuild their futures. It also documents where they lived and worked, highlighting their perseverance despite the many challenges they faced. These locations and stories were transformed into symbolic maps to honor their strength. Their journeys have been woven into traditional Slovenian bobbin lace, with each piece reflecting their paths and creating a unique narrative. Through these delicate works, we honor their journeys in search for recognition, identity, and rights. “(un)woven tales” is an installation that intertwines the craft of Slovenian lace with the poignant stories of the Erased, thus juxtaposing a symbol of national pride with a dark chapter of Slovenian history. After Slovenia’s independence in 1991, thousands of the Erased lost their legal status and basic human rights, which pushed them into social and political invisibility. The collaboration between Anna Odulińska and Nika van Berkel gives voice to the stories of the affected and reveals how their erasure, although illegal and unconstitutional, continues to leave lasting marks. Traditional Slovenian lace follows the journeys of Slavica, Vladica, and Irfan, whose stories shape the central part of the installation. By weaving their experiences in the struggle for recognition, documents, and rights, the project raises awareness of national identity and the fight of those whose identity was erased. By giving their voices to the (un)woven tales, they ensure that their struggles are not forgotten and that the lessons of their erasure continue to resonate. 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘪𝘵𝘺 | 𝘈𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 I step into the green atrium in the middle of the city. The expansive view of the Gloriette, towering impressively over the urban landscape, evokes tranquillity and a sense of time. As I walk through, I become part of it, a participant in an elastic sphere that expands to accommodate my body. After a few minutes of stillness in the silence, I begin to experience the stadium’s environment as boundless, resonant and permeable. The city is falling into the space. In(di)visible textures construct a sensory environment that reshapes what I think, see and hear. Pridruži se zvočnemu sprehodu “Zeleni atrij mesta”, kjer bosta Nika van Berkel in Karmen Ponikvar skozi zvok raziskovali ta degradirani, a mogočni prostor.

Locus Horrendus | Collaboration with @nikavanberkel and @marinadondras entry for 2024 International Garden Festival competition / Chaumont-sur-Loire, France ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Throughout history, humanity has sculpted its surroundings into idyllic “locus amoenus,” designed for comfort and beauty, enclosing the divine landscapes within carefully curated gardens, separated from the wild, untamed world. In our contemporary efforts to infuse ecology into our cities, we seek to introduce diversity, yet even this is subjected to our ideals of aesthetic pleasure and comfort. “Locus Horrendus” exposes the untamed wilderness, the raw essence of nature, and the sometimes unsettling reality of ecological integration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . . . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #illustration #illustrarch #drawing #architectureonpaper #axo #garden #landscape #archolution #instaarchitecture #drawing #digital #competition #architecture #garden #collage #archicollage #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign
