After our post from last week with the LGBT flags, we got some messages about the meanings and requests to represent more than the main four identities in the acronym.
The original Rainbow flag was created in the 1970s with its colors representing the diversity of the LGBT community. But that one had too many colors and was too expensive to mass-produce, so it was eventually simplified to six colors we usually see today. 🏳️🌈
Since then, more gender and sexual identities have created flags as a means to demonstrate unity, pride, shared values, and allegiance to one another. The colors of the stripes on these flags usually represent more specific identities and experiences that exist within that community.
There are a bunch more than shown here (but Instagram only allows for 10 images in a carousel), and they’re all valid. 😘
