We said goodbye to our guy this past Friday the 13th. I never was a dog person until Robot. He won my heart over twelve years ago when we spent the holidays alone together in LA. I was so sick and the only thing that brought me any comfort was resting on the couch with him on my chest. Back then he didn’t sit still, ever, so this was a rare and special occasion and the moment us two maniacs bonded for good.
A city dog for 14 years of his life, we were amazed by how he thrived up on the mountain when we got our cabin. Happiness emanated from him at all hours, he showed us a deepening of rest and reveled in sprawled out carpeted naps. Morning meditations, back trail walks and the best hammock hangs would complete every day.
Robot taught me the power of patience, tenderness and nonverbal communication. His resilience and zesty passion for life was astounding. I think he might have been part cat, because he lived nine lives. I learned more about unconditional love and compassion from this sweet pup than I knew possible.
I miss tucking him in at night, kissing his forehead and expressing my gratitude for all the reasons why he made this day a special one. The way he would look at me with those knowing eyes from his bed behind the ugly chair and just how incredibly stinky his breath became. Our home is quieter now, our daily rhythms disrupted and this is our first time as two not three.
Nineteen and a half years wise, Robot the dog was and forever will be a true legend. I love you Robie, you’ll always be my number one guy. ❤️ #35mmfilm gems from our journey.
