“Primarily inspired by the 1998 novel, Glamorama, written by Bret Easton Ellis. Ellis introduces us to the satirised world of minimalist, 1990s high fashion, celebrity and consumer obsessed culture. Ellis’ surreal, paranoia-driven narrative blurs identity and depicts the aestheticisation of violence and loss of privacy within the media and cultural landscape of its time.
These themes are eerily mirrored within today’s online culture, often seen through the performative nature of social media, where anxiety drives constant exposure.
By drawing upon the minimalistic visuals and fashion of this era, combined with the implied violence showcased through the special effects artistry, ‘glamorama’ considers the lengths we are willing to go to for aesthetic gratification and the attention of others.”
