Nick Walker came out of Bristol’s 80s graffiti scene, years before street art was “gallery worthy.” Bristol birthed stencil culture, Banksy, the whole underground. Walker was there first.
His weapon wasn’t a new style. It was one character: “The Vandal.”
But this vandal wasn’t aggressive. He was polite. Dressed like a banker. Composed. And he was tagging walls.
That contradiction changed everything. Walker took graffiti’s chaos and filtered it through British elegance. No drips, no rage. Just rebellion with manners.
In 2008, the timing was perfect. Street art was exploding. At Walker’s London show, people camped overnight to buy it.
Collectors wanted rebellion, but not the mess. Walker gave them both.
these are Ukiyo-e prints produced by Adachi Hanga in Japan . ‘Tokyo Nectar’ was the first title I worked on with them and I am making some available for the first time. For more information
