For our first Community Feature, we’re highlighting work from @nickspector and his recent zine Sketchbook: Japan.
The photographs in Sketchbook: Japan were made over the course of a two-week trip to Japan in October 2025. It was Nick’s fifth trip to the country — a place he continues to return to as an important and influential part of his street photography practice.

Through the selection and sequencing of images, Sketchbook: Japan aims to mirror the experience of being there — moving between moments of intensity and quiet observation. From the crowded energy of Shibuya Crossing to small, fleeting details like a butterfly landing on a flower, the photographs reflect a shifting rhythm in Japan’s daily life.
Although the zine is currently SOLD OUT in physical form, Nick has made a digital copy for everyone to enjoy.

It’s interesting to look back at it now, almost two years after many of these photos were taken. So much of how, what, and why I photograph has changed. It’s nice to have this as a touchstone to mark that growth, and a very specific period of my life.
