I’ve officially filed to run for re-election as your Mayor of Plantation, and I’m asking for your vote on November 3. Over the last three years, we’ve delivered real progress—keeping Plantation safe, clean, and green while focusing on the basics that matter to families and neighborhoods. I’m especially proud that we achieved the city’s first millage-rate reduction in eight years in the most recent budget. Together, we’ve moved key initiatives forward: police body cameras, the opening of North Acres Park, and the launch of the University of Plantation to help residents better understand how City Hall works. We also built a stormwater management team to better prepare our streets, canals, and swales for flooding, and we’ve continued improving community events like Light Up City Hall, Rock the Park, and Santa’s Visit. One thing I’ll never change: my commitment to being accessible and transparent. I’ll keep showing up, visiting every part of the city, sending my newsletter, sharing Monday Mayor’s Minute, and responding directly when you reach out—because people are everything. I’ve knocked on thousands of doors over my campaigns, and I’ll be out there again listening, learning, and earning your support. Let’s keep Plantation moving forward. Learn more at NickSortal.com.

Robyn, me, our two girls and two son-in-laws and four (!) grandchildren fit into our truck for the Holiday Parade Saturday. (Aaron, family member No. 11, is still in California.) First parade for Noa, the cutie. Glad to have help throwing candy and glad our grand marshal, Plantation High teacher Joe Vallone, enjoyed his day. The holiday season has started..

St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church was packed and more patrons sat in the hallway or stood. The parking lot filled up and parked cars stretched for blocks along Fifth Street Sunday for a fund-raiser to help those affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Steve Higgins and the South Florida Caribbean Chorale were the centerpiece of three hours (!) of music, and there were just too many musical highlights for me to sort them out. St. Benedict’s Father Cutie gave us a song or two (see video) wearing a Jamaica shirt that made me surmise he was a soccer player. The attendees were in very good spirits and it was a spectacular job of building community. To give to Melissa relief in Jamaica go to FoodForThePoor.org/melissa

They may not have firefighting as a career option (yet) but I know two young 'uns who had a blast at the Plantation Volunteer Fire Association's Annual BBQ. Pony rides, bounce houses, big slides, arts ... fantastic kid-friendly day. (I opted for Scott Reed's corn and a massive pulled pork sandwich and was among those sashaying to Shane Duncan Band while under the food tent.) Also, thanks to the many vendors who supported the event Sunday at Pine Island Park.

Good questions and good conversations today during Leadership Broward's Government and Education Day. Five other electeds and I each rotated around six tables of eight people, explaining what we do (help people), what challenges we face (trees busting up sidewalks everywhere) and our philosophies (you are our customers). We had 10 minutes at each table, so it was kind of like speed dating. A handful of Plantation residents are part of this year's class of Leadership Broward, an organization that coaches up early- and mid-career people to obtain necessary skills to become community leaders. /

The Plantation Chamber celebrated the opening of Lindora Weight Loss and Wellness, 8154 W. Broward (the strip behind Ole Ole). There's a sculpting machine, but also lots of coaching. Welcome to Plantation!

At Caesar’s on Vegas. That’s Kelly Clarkson image in background. Wifey is happy. Aaron sandbagged us saying he bought “average” seats. We in 12th row. He learned well.

We decorated the parade route on 69th Avenue north of Broward Boulevard. Thanks to Matt Thompson and Public Works and to the Country Club Estates resident whose suggestion inspired it. We're watching the weather and will keep you posted. Sign up for event alerts (and the mayor's regular newsletter) at Plantation.org/signmeup
