I came across this old photo of Noah at our Tysons studio in 2021. He was only seven months old here. Now he’s five and heading to kindergarten this fall. Seeing this photo brought back so many memories because those days were really hard. We had just opened Tysons, I was still running Falls Church, trying to grow the business while recovering from giving birth, had two small car accidents two months in a row, was taking care of my older dog going through chemo, and somehow trying to hold everything together all at once. I remember feeling exhausted most of the time and wondering if I was doing any of it well. Mother’s Day always reminds me how much care so many people carry every day — mothers, mother figures, caregivers, daughters, friends, mentors, and the people quietly showing up for others in big and small ways. This week, I just want to say we see you, we appreciate you, and I hope you take a moment to be proud of yourself too. Even just making it through the day is enough sometimes. And for those celebrating mothers, missing them, becoming them, or simply feeling grateful for someone who cared for you — we’re thinking of you too. We hope you come slow down with us whenever you need it. Happy mother’s day. With love, Jade

Mother’s Day is coming, and we wanted to celebrate an amazing mother of two boys — Carol Pak, the force behind Korean rice wine, @drinkmakku During a trip to Korea, Carol discovered craft makgeolli in the way it was meant to be enjoyed — fresh, lightly sparkling, creamy, and deeply rooted in tradition. Back in the U.S., she searched for that same experience, only to find imported options filled with artificial ingredients and preservatives. So she began brewing her own. Made with real steamed rice and inspired by generations of Korean tradition, Makku was born in 2017 — a modern take on one of Korea’s oldest drinks. To celebrate Mother’s Day week, from 5/4 to 5/10, Carol is generously offering 15% off Makku drinks for our NIB community with code MOTHERSDAY15. Come try Makku at all of our studios from 5/4–5/10. We’ll be pouring Korean rice wine all week — a little something to sip while you slow down. A little something special for the mothers among us.

We’ll be pouring Korean rice wine all week — a little something to sip while you slow down. There is something about makgeolli (막걸리) that always brings me back. @drinkmakku made with real steamed rice and inspired by generations of Korean tradition, holds a familiar comfort for me — one deeply tied to memory. My grandmother loved makgeolli. She was a single mother of three who spent most of her life working and giving everything she had to her children. She rarely did anything for herself, but makgeolli was one of the few small things she allowed herself to enjoy. I still remember those quiet moments when she would take a sip — and how peaceful she looked. At the time, I was too young to understand the weight of her life. Now that I am older, I understand her more deeply — how much she carried, how much she gave, and how strong she had to be. More than anything, I feel proud of the life she lived. I miss her so much, and I wish I could hug her once more and tell her that. As Mother’s Day approaches, I find myself thinking of her — and of all the mothers and mother figures who give so much of themselves every day. This week is for them. Come sip with us from Mon, 5/4- Sun, 5/10 at all NIB studios. A little something special for the mothers among us.
