By now you will have heard the tremendously awful news that Cheryl Strayed has lost her husband to a terrible disease. Filmmaker and father Brian Lindstrom, captured here in a photo by Jennie Baker, is a man who will be remembered for his kindness and love. He was diagnosed with a disease and gone within months. I have had the incredible good fortune to have adapted Cheryl’s book into a play of the same name, Tiny Beautiful Things, and performed it several times in both English and Greek. I am grateful our director Thomas Kail gave me the book, I am forever changed by the experience. Every time I have seen someone play Sugar or said the lines myself, Cheryl’s words have been enormously healing for me. And yet, I am a loss for what to say in the face of such an unspeakable tragedy. I am thinking of their children Bobbi and Carver who have lost their father at tender ages. I am thinking of Cheryl who has lost her love, her partner, her best friend. I am thinking of Brian who deserved better. Rest in peace dear Brian. I only want to remember you laughing with us all during the play, so supportive of Cheryl and our cast and crew, so full of love. Cheryl, my heart is broken for you. I love you. I love you all so much. ♥️

Thank you for shining a light on my writing @wgfoundation ✏️ When I wrote this description, I was a new screenwriter trying to get an acting job. I wrote My Big Fat Greek Wedding, hoping to play a cousin. When I couldn’t even get my script read by the studios, I rented a theater, performed it as a solo show and played all the parts. I hoped to get an agent who would send my screenplay to the studios. The agents didn’t come. Instead, @ritawilson @tomhanks and #garygoetzman came to the play, read my screenplay, and produced the movie. And I got to play the bride. ⛪️ Love, Toula
