Had great craic on @irelandamvmtv this morning chatting about why we should normalise talking to our young children about their bodies in an age appropriate way.
It was sparked by a piece I wrote for @independent.ie where I discussed why I explained periods to my five year old son.

I’ve always been tall, but I’ve not always felt comfortable taking up space as a tall woman.
Thankfully that’s all changed in the last few years.
Now, I no longer make myself small and I push back on manspreading, with a bit of womanspreading of my own.

In today’s @independent.ie , I’m writing about Skims Co-founder Emma Grede’s three hour mum mantra and while I don’t disagree with her sentiments about exhaustion and burnout in mums, what she’s selling is utterly an unattainable scenario most of us can never hope to emulate
Should we make children finish activities they no longer like?
Having a child declare they no longer like breakdancing (or whatever extra curricular activity it is) halfway through a term, is a quandary all parents will be faced with at some point.
Do you encourage your child to finish out the term to help them understand the importance of seeing something through (and also because you’ve dropped €100 on it and you want to get value for money), or do you listen to their concerns and let them quit, (and be secretly delighted that you’ve one less parental taxi commitment to deal with each week?)

I’m desperate for a sleep divorce but I don’t have the space!
What once seemed like an easy fix, feels more like a privilege for many the days who don’t have the luxury of a spare room.
My partner snores like a rusty chainsaw with a bit of undead zombie thrown in for good measure, but with the average age of children not leaving home now at 28, I may well be fit for the retirement home by the time I get the ink down on my sleep divorce 👇🏻

In the early days of motherhood, I bought into the whole mum wine narrative big time. I shared the memes, bought the merch, laughed at the messaging and even slapped a few slogans on coffee mugs myself.
But today it feels like the joke has gone stale and the messaging is toxic, hiding that what mums really need are tangible supports like access to affordable childcare and better maternal mental health services and a more even distribution of the mental load and not wine
