#NationalVolunteerWeek @universityofutah
We are celebrating more volunteers during #NationalVolunteerWeek and today we are highlighting Deon Gines and Catherine Groseclose, to whom we posted some questions to learn more about their motivation behind #volunteering at @NHMU .
Deon Gines
What motivated you to start volunteering?
"I loved the Natural History Museum of Utah on President's Circle during my undergrad years on the @universityofutah campus. Decades later in 2011, my son took a class which required him to take the NHMU paleo lab course and he encouraged me to take it too. I then applied to be a volunteer, later finished the paleo field course, and have since worked in many areas over my 15 years at NHMU."
What keeps you coming back to volunteer at NHMU?
"I learn something new every time I'm in the Museum and I enjoy talking to the visitors as a GI and tour guide. Plus we have a great group of volunteers and staff to work with.
"
Catherine Groseclose
What motivated you to start volunteering?
"I was drawn to volunteering at NHMU because I wanted to do something hands-on and behind the scenes. I love that there's so much opportunity for learning as a volunteer. I've stayed on because The Museum makes a point to value their volunteers."
"What keeps you coming back to volunteer at NHMU?
"I like being able to make my own little meaningful contribution to science. NHMU is an invaluable community resource and I'm glad to be a part of it. Also, it's good to be in a place where science thrives!"
