Breaking in both my Zildjian Travis Barker sticks and the NF Acous NH20 with the balanced cable upgrade.
I usually use IEMs when playing drums, but I have to keep the volume fairly low so I can still hear my actual drums. Most of the time I end up relying more on the tactile feedback from the sticks and the feel of the drums themselves, which honestly takes some getting used to. I have tried headphones before, but a lot of them felt too heavy or shifted around every time I moved my head.
The NH20 has been a different experience. The fit and clamping force feel just right for drumming. It’s super lightweight on the head, clamps securely without feeling tight, and gives just enough seal that I can clearly hear my drums while still following the rhythm and details of the music playing through the NH20.
What surprised me most is the comfort. The earcups sit at a slight angle that naturally hugs my head and cups my ears perfectly, so even when moving around behind the kit everything stays locked in place. One reviewer recently noticed a small detail on the NF ACOUS NH20 that almost nobody talks about.
When worn around the neck, the earcups rotate outward differently from most headphones, exposing the inner side of the earpads.
But this was actually intentional.
Most consumer headphones are designed with comfort and appearance in mind, so the earcups usually rotate inward to look and feel more natural when worn around the neck.
The NH20, however, was designed from a studio monitoring perspective.
In real studio workflows, headphones are more often picked up from a desk and immediately put back on during recording or editing sessions. Because of that, quick left/right orientation became more important than neck-wearing comfort.
It’s a very small detail, but one that quietly reflects what the NH20 was originally created for. 🎧
Even our founder said he was surprised someone finally noticed it.
