"Sending a huge kudos to Owen Hipwell and Renée Chao for supporting senior Design major Tyler Newman ( @tssimone ) in her vision to host the first ever "Creators on Campus" conference at the d.school last Saturday. The d.school was abuzz with the vibrant energy of creators from across campus and beyond, exchanging questions like: ❔ - "What platform are you on?" ❔ - "Do you specialize in long or short-form?" ❔ - "What tools do you use?" ❔ - "Do you have a manager?" Tyler and her team hosted keynotes with senior industry leaders from TikTok, YouTube (including an amazing alum), and Adobe, exploring the next frontier of content creation. They also held panels on topics like "social impact" and "turning hobbies into careers," and even held a real-time contest in partnership with Adobe, who came with a special QR code to recruit Stanford students. I also got a sneak peek of Tyler's behind-the-scenes Gantt chart, keeping track of all of the key details—that was in and of itself a masterpiece in design! The conference ended at 4 pm, but students were still creating content and building relationships way into the early evening. It's always inspiring to see what our students can imagine—and what they can bring to life. Speaker Announcement: Katie Xu 🔊 Katie Xu is a creator, entrepreneur, and content strategist who helps artists and entrepreneurs build their personal brands online. Her content journey began at age 10, making Video Star edits on YouTube—long before she realized storytelling could be a career. After her freshman year at Duke, she took a year off to pursue content and consulting full-time, growing her own audience to 140K+ and founding Sonder Consulting, where she’s helped over 100 clients show up authentically online.   She’s previously partnered with brands like LinkedIn, Kajabi, Dash Hudson, and Stan, and worked at Night—the agency behind MrBeast and other top creators—where she focused on building creator-led businesses. She’s also an investor with Dorm Room Fund, where she backs student founders building bold, creative, and future-facing companies.  Now back at Duke, Katie serves as President of Creator Lab, the university’s home for creatives and entrepreneurs.
