I am so very proud of what we have all created to tell this story. This piece is our ‘love letter to Africa’.
There are moments in this journey of life where we get to be a mirror to others and to ourselves through art. This being one of them in the deepest sense, I am so honoured.
William Kamkwamba and Malawi’s history of Black resilience, creativity and magic holds a universal Black truth that just is; but it is also a real life analogy for all of us to take note of and be inspired to greatness by.
To be able to see parallels with my own path of boyhood to manhood and onto to this very moment right now, is one I’ll treasure deep.

He stated that “Black queer unapologetic joy = divine revolution.” in his acceptance speech for LGBTQIA+ Champion Award (Black Theatre Awards) and this has stuck with me ever since 🖤

Ima always say it; I do love me an all Black cast! It’s magic to tell stories of Blackness and ancestry that hinge on elevation, on excellence, on overcomance
William Kamkwamba’s story is for everyone; but it is essential to acknowledge, praise and evoke pride BECAUSE of his lineage as a Malawian man.
There is a deep responsibility we all feel to be honoured with the task of depicting his world changing life story. HIS story! But ACTUALLY!
I wanna thank our amazing creative team for shepherding us through this journey; and especially to our captain @lynettelinton1 ! EVERYTHING you do to make our’s a safe and unapologetic space for community, Black creativity and growth remains at the forefront of our minds.
