Travelling to Newfoundland with a pet?!🚗🚢🐶
Many of us will take the longer route driving so our furry friends can come along with us! @maferries takes great care of their furry guests and makes travel easy.
When you arrive you check in and park your car in the designated lane provided by the check in clerk. Once parked you can take your pup out for a walk and stretch those legs. Each side has a small dog park to enjoy as well!👏🏼🙂↕️
By around 9pm everyone is directed to go back to their vehicles and wait for further instruction. Each lane is loaded up onto the ferry. Once you are on the boat it all depends what reservation you were able to get.
If you were lucky to get a pet friendly cabin (which are extremely limited) you can take your dog out of the car and bring them up to the cabin. We always go to deck 7 to walk around - this is where the kennel & relief station is.
If you didn’t get a cabin you have a few options: you can bring an airline approved kennel and they can be left in the temperature controlled kennel space OR you can simply leave them in the car. You are NOT allowed to stay in your vehicle so remember they would be by themselves for the crossing. No need to stress the Marine Atlantic staff make rounds throughout the night to ensure no pets are in distress and are resting comfortably! Phil has done this option a few times as we take the overnight crossing he just sleeps the whole night and is never stressed when I see him in the morning. It all depends on your dog and what would be best for them!

Cupids is a historic town on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador, famously established in 1610 as the first English settlement in what is now Canada. 🇨🇦
Originally known as Cuper’s Cove, it was founded by merchant John Guy and a group of settlers under a royal charter from King James I, marking the official beginning of the British Empire’s permanent presence in the country.
Today, the town is a significant archaeological and cultural site, home to the Cupids Legacy Centre and the ongoing Cupids Cove Plantation excavations, which have unearthed thousands of artifacts from the 17th century.
