We’re partnering with Newcomer Kitchen to bring a truly special food experience to the festival — meals crafted by newcomer women, each carrying stories of migration, memory, and home.
LUNCH — Flavours of Punjab
Palak Paneer with cumin basmati rice, fresh salad, and flaky paranatha by Robin Mand (Robin’s Kitchenette)
DINNER — Flavours of Taiwan
Stir-fried vermicelli with seasoned tofu, black fungi, and vegetables, served with a stuffed tea egg and sesame cucumber salad by Chia-Ni Dan (Jiandan Taiwanese Street Food)
These meals are more than food — they reflect the same journeys, cultures, and lived experiences that shape the stories you’ll encounter throughout the festival.

What an incredible week @newcomerkitchen hosting our 8th annual lunch cooking workshop with the Grade 7 students from Crescent boys private school.
Throughout the week, women from our food business program led fun, interactive cooking demonstrations and guided the boys through hands on preparation at each table. Together they cooked, shared stories, and learned about newcomers, entrepreneurship, and the power of community.
After lunch, the boys gathered in teams for a reflection exercise, discussing, drawing and presenting what the experience meant to them. One student summed it up beautifully: “Unity Creates Community.” We could not have said it better ourselves 💗
On the menu:
• Appetizer: Indian hummus spinach rolled paranthas
• Salad: Taiwanese cucumber and grape tomato salad
• Main: Kofta meatball curry with side parantha
• Dessert: Turkish Green Cake and assorted cookies
• Drink: Ghanaian zobolo (hibiscus) beverage
As we celebrate International Women’s Day today 🌺 we are especially proud to highlight the newcomer women who led this experience. Through food, leadership, and entrepreneurship, they continue to inspire the next generation and strengthen the communities we share. Thank you for the great work!!

We haven't seen some of these women for a long time, and it was so beautiful to come together celebrating in this setting @ooaks_toronto 's 50th anniversary on the new Flavours Demo stage.
On Sunday's scheduled event, we shared something simple but deeply meaningful- the cookies that carry our stories. Each of our past Newcomer Kitchen students has a favourite cookie that connects them to home, to family, and to the journey that brought them to Canada.
These are not just recipes- they’re memories, courage, and community, baked into each woman’s story. We were there to celebrate their voices, their cultures, and the ways food helps us belong. Our storytellers were amazing, as they shared their cookie, their journey, and the part Newcomer Kitchen has played in their new beginnings.

Our winter semester's day group calls themselves Queens Cravings 🇸🇩🇳🇬🇨🇲🇦🇫🇺🇬🇮🇳 and what a delicious meal it promises to be! Women from around the world prepare their regional specialities. With an appetizer, main dish (either a vegetarian or meat option, side, salad and dessert) it is the best meal deal in town.
