A zine about zine club 🤝 I think zines are such a fun way to advertise for events/clubs! Kind of an alternative to flyers? I made this one to advertise for @newcastlelibraries monthly zine club and we folded them up at the club tonight! They’ll be put into the zine boxes around Newcastle so keep your eye out for them! 🌟 . . . #zineclub #zinemaking #zine #newcastlensw #zinelibrary

Over 5,500 plate glass negatives. One incredible legacy. Tonight at Newcastle City Library, we're Celebrating Snowball. In 1988, a staggering collection of thousands of plate glass negatives was discovered in a basement, all captured by one man - Ralph Snowball. For decades, these images lay in the dark. Tonight, through a massive digitisation project by Newcastle Libraries and a team of dedicated volunteers, they are stepping into the light. Join us to hear the stories behind the images and see a version of Newcastle once thought lost forever. 📍 Newcastle Library 🕒 6-7pm tonight! 🎟 FREE | Drop-in | Light refreshments

Just a little reminder that our 'Celebrating Snowball' event is on this Wednesday evening at 6pm in the Lovett Gallery at Newcastle Library. You will hear about the life of Ralph Snowball, our digitisation project and some of the stories behind these incredible images, many of which have never been seen before. This is an opportunity to peer into the past and thank the team whose work has preserved this archive for generations to come. Light refreshments will be served, and this is a free event no need to book just come along. We hope to see you there!

On this day in 1951 the Commonwealth Jubilee Celebration Day march was held. The Newcastle Morning Herald described those who participated in the procession: “Army personnel, boy scouts and girl guides, Red Cross, Police Boys’ Club, V.A.D., St John Ambulance, baseball and surf club members, and about a hundred migrants in national costume… Among the organisations which had entered floats were the Education Department, Newcastle Technical College, Hunter District Water Board, Nesca, State Dockyard, Newcastle Gas Company, Newcastle Police Boys Club, Transport Department, Trades Hall Council, Railway Department, Newcastle surf clubs, and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital”. The article goes on the describe the other activities held later in the day at Newcastle Showground including Highland dancing and boomerang throwing, and in the evening fireworks and the first military tattoo to be held in Newcastle” (4/5/1951) #OnThisDay #CollectionHighlight #LibraryCollections #NewcastleHistory #NewyStories #HistoryInPictures Commonwealth Jubilee Celebration Day march 09/05/1951 Newcastle Morning Herald Collection 104 010526 104 010523 104 010529

We're delighted to have award-winning author and crowd favourite @emmagreyauthor back in our libraries to talk about her latest novel Start at the End. This powerful, emotional, sliding-doors novel about love, loss, grief and hope asks if our stories are already written. Are we able to change fate? And is it ever too late to start again? Hosting this wonderful event is another fan favourite, our very own local romance author @nataliemurrayauthor . Books will be available for purchase from @macleansbooks . 📅 Thursday 14 May, 6-7pm 📍 Wallsend Library 🎟 FREE, book now at the link in our bio
