Sugarloaf Trail Update: The Views Are Worth It! Even though the final connection to North Bloomfield Road is still in progress, the community has already begun enjoying the new Sugarloaf Trail and the response has been incredible. Trail users have been lacing up their hiking shoes, filling their water bottles, and heading out to experience the sweeping views and beautiful terrain along the trail and from the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with stunning vistas of the forests and historic downtown Nevada City. For more information about how to access the trail, why the final 200 feet is not complete, and more, read the full article on the city’s website. nevadacityca.gov

Defensible Space Inspections Begin Today May 1st We have added many resources to help each of you as much as possible and look forward to more walk along inspections this year! Please remember, defensible space inspections are intended to keep you and our wonderful community safer from a wildfire. Defensible space is the zone firefighters can utilize (if clear of vegetation and other hazards) to give your home a fighting chance during a wildfire. This year we are offering FREE screening for vents (up to 6 vents) to residents who access their online report. Nevada City is rated at a high severity wildfire risk. But together we can make Nevada City Safer From Wildfire. For more information visit Nevadacityca.gov To schedule an inspection email - [email protected]

Nevada City Parks & Recreation is using new registration software. Take the time to get familiar with how to find the activities that you and your children are interested in before registration opens on Friday, May 1st. It is also helpful to review the Summer Program Guide to confirm dates, times, fees and other details. You can view the Summer Program Guide on the City’s website or at the link in bio! You can also pick up a paper copy at the park or City Hall. If you have questions, call the swimming pool at 530-265-8223.

Many thanks to everyone who joined us for our annual Town Beautification Day on Friday! Our amazing volunteers painted curbs throughout town, cleaned up the Commercial & Nevada Street lots, and cleaned up Robinson Plaza. It truly takes a community! A special thanks to @quenchnevadacity for donating delicious sandwiches for lunch, @elevation2477 for bringing a who crew out to help, and all of the volunteers who dedicate their time year round for our community. Thank you to Public Works for organizing and for the incredible work they do 365 days a year to keep our town beautiful and functioning!

The City of Nevada City Fuels crew will be conducting pile burning at the old airport, April 15th, weather permitting. Smoke will be carefully monitored, and efforts will be taken to reduce impacts to communities. The goal of this pile burn is to decrease the existing fire hazard and to reduce the impact of future fires in the area. Here is more information on our crew and the open space project we are working on : Nevadacityca.gov/nevadacityoes
