Tiny but mighty. Jack’s House might have left orbit, but the installation and photo station gallery is live. Created for the 2026 Kids Art Walk in the music venue of Make.Shift Art Space, and an incredible group of young artists, this piece was built in response to student work and brought to life through everyone who stepped inside. You can still explore the full gallery, including student art submissions all month at Make.Shift. We tried something new this time, delivering photos immediately via text, email, WhatsApp, and AirDrop. Watching those images go live throughout the night and waking up to all the alerts was something else. Honestly, one of the best compliments Annalee and I can get as creators and photographers sits right next to “when can I do that again?” Video: screen recording of online gallery scroll of Interactive art installation + photo station from Kids Art Walk at Make.Shift in Bellingham, WA.

Welcome to Jack’s House was a one-night interactive art installation and photo station that we built in a day in the basement of Make.Shift and took down in an hour. This month, Make.Shift partnered with a local school to pair a student artist with a community artist for the annual Kid’s Art Walk. The student created art (theme butterfly effect) and then the community artist created a response piece. For us, this work reached across counties, created relationships, and rippled into laughter over an interactive lighted tentacle. Our set, plus my emulsion piece in the main floor gallery, was in response to a student’s (Marco) art submission to Make.Shift Art Space titled The Hurricane. The Hurricane “Once upon a time there was a boy named Mike. Mike was walking to school when a bird flew over his head. One of its feathers landed on his nose and he sneezed. The air made hurricane Katrina. The bird flew away. Mike’s house flew away so he had no food and tomorrow he would not have a lunch. A kid named Jack saw he had no lunch and came and sat with Mike. He told Mike that he packed an extra snack and gave Mike granola bar. They started talking about nonsense like video games. Soon they became friends. Mike told Jack his house blew away, so Jack invited him to stay at his house. They played video games together at Jack’s house. They had macaroni and cheese for dinner. in the middle of the night, Mike woke up because he was hearing weird noises. He looked around and Jack looked weird. Jack is an alien. The End.” - Marco (Samish Woods Montessori School) Let’s build it. Let’s be weird. So… Welcome to Jack’s House. A special thank you to Marco, who we didn’t get to meet, but we hope these photos bring a lot of joy. An extra special thank you to @make.shiftartspace , where our studio is located; @barrettlizza for being kind enough to let me take photos of old TVs in his shop (& for selling me this cool TV); the man from Skagit who gifted us his family couch that we the strapped to the roof of our car; & finally my lifelong friend @gracieface85 , who still takes me to her family home even after I say the ominous…Hey, I have this idea. Thanks for playing, Bellingham.

First Friday of every month is the Bellingham Downtown Art Walk. You can get the full map over at @downtownbham ’s website. While you’re out, we want to see you. Come check out @make.shiftartspace —they’ve got a brand new gallery on the first floor and art studios down in the basement. We’ll be doing quick headshots or mini instant prints by donation if you want to update your profile pic or just do something fun while you’re wandering the Art Walk. I invited @thymelessliving to come work alongside us, so you can check out mixed media art, a quirky seamstress in progress, or your local photographer friends and their basement-dweller shenanigans. Do me a favor—repost, comment, and share the Art Walk so we can keep small studios going in Bellingham.

Heeeey Florida friends… If you’ve been saying “I need to send BZ a message about photos this year” or “damn, I wish I’d scheduled a shoot last time,” your time is right now. We will schedule a small handful of private sessions and an evening of potentially themed mini sessions. Have a weird idea? We want your weird, wonderful, and whimsical ideas right now. You have my permission to slide into my DMs and share. 😏 #SmutLovers #smutloverscommunity #orlandoflorida

When I see a photograph I loved to take, I feel that feeling again every time I look at it. It’s almost an out-of-body experience—making memory into art from light and shadow—and then seeing that photo later and remembering what that moment felt like: the sounds you were hearing, the gravel under your knees, the heat of fire…and then you remember you’re now sitting at a desk, looking at a memory from a week ago. And there are so many images I love from my experience at @fire.and.story 2026. Thank you @paperwhalearts for having us on the Fire & Story content team! And thank you to our incredibly skilled and kind counterpart, @fotomataio (and Jessica who literally warmed my hand in hers). I’ll have more photos to share later (including these in a full post with more detailed subject credits). For now, go follow @paperwhalearts and the beautiful work they’re doing in our community and take some time to explore the tagged artists/vendors who are the heart of it.

BTS Headshots anyone? 🤣 Vinny is our new model, supervisor, and assistant. He took out two backdrops and one light over the last two weeks. Want to test the stability of your set up? Hire a studio cat. Anyways, we were able to nail the workflow test for immediate gallery delivery using two new programs we’ve been testing the last few weeks. All individual galleries were digitally delivered within five minutes of having the photos taken. #headshot #behindthelens #behindthescenes #BTS #btsphotography #catsofinstagram #cats #catlovers #funnycat #vinnythebudgetbengal #budgetbengal #melanisticbengal #canon #captureone #headshottools #flashpointlighting #westcott

I love senior portraits and I love clients who don’t mind jumping in a creek with me. ♥️ Last Tuesday was magical and I am so glad to have A’s portrait gallery out to her so quickly. I’ll share my favorites after she and her mom have had their chance first. Thank you to our pack llama @nettle.mettle for grabbing these behind-the-scenes pics—I always forget! #seniorportraits #seniorpictures #bellinghamseniorphotographer #washingtonseniorphotographer #washingtonseniorportraits #seniorpictures #bellinghamseniorphotography #seniorphotos #inclusivephotographer #pnwseniorportraits #portraitphotographer #GraduatingClassof2026
