Come and meet today’s emergency services, explore historic vehicles from the museum collection 🚒 and discover the charities that support our frontline responders ❤️
There’ll also be family activities and life safety tips throughout the day.
Please note the museum will be closed on Sunday 10 May while the event takes place — but we’re only a short walk away.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day
A day to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and to recognise the bravery and dedication of firefighters past and present.
From early fire brigades to the professional services we see today, their story is one of courage, teamwork and protecting communities.

Last night we were at Cutlers’ Hall for a special evening celebrating the Firefighters Challenge, with South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.
Our team took along our 1960s German Fire Tender from Bochum 🚒
Bochum is Sheffield’s twin city and, like Sheffield, has a strong history of steelmaking.

We’ve been working through parts of our film reel collection and wanted to share this one.
This reel contains “Donald’s Fire Survival Plan”, a mid-1960s Disney cartoon used to teach children home fire safety advice.
The film was shown in schools and fire safety sessions right up until the late 1970s.
