To date, Clutch is the largest band I’ve photographed. I doubt seriously I’ll ever get the opportunity to do anything like this again. At least not for a larger touring group like this. What did I learn? When there’s the opportunity to be at the fence up front, fucking take it and stay there. I also learned I hate color correction. None of that matters though as it was a fantastic experience. Clutch is king in my live music book. Huge thanks to @natebergmansings for the photo pass. I could not have gotten these shots without your permission… Literally. I look forward to maybe seeing all three of these bands again. Apologies to Jean Paul, as I could not get into position to photograph him but for a few brief shots. (Better shots of him playing drums with Bergman) This was a rare Tuesday date night for Cari and I and we won’t soon forget it.
I hate missing Sunday breakfast burrito day and will make one out of whatever leftover we have.. so I present to you… the volcano shrimp steamed dumpling breakfast burrito…
Many thanks to @nervousbreakdowninprogress for putting together this photo collage of our set at Dante’s in Frostburg MD 🖤
It was a really fun night! ❤️
The early U.S.A. could never truly appreciate Syd Barrett and the early Floyd. Instead of getting “Apples and Oranges “ as the third US single, the powers wanted something that promoted the “Piper…” album. Funny thing was “Flaming” wasn’t on the original US pressing. It was added later. The end result? I have another of the original singles and a bit of backstory. Pop quiz later…
April @struggling_artist_record_club brings a release I almost pulled the trigger on earlier thru the record company Bandcamp page. I had previously bought a copy of Scarboros earlier releases “Here Comes The Hangover” and “Wolves On The Radio” and am a big fan of their skate punk quick a hell style. Flash forward from 2013’s demos to now with “Hate Season”- it starts with a tongue in cheek instrumental that sounds of a mix of a high school ska band and Good Charlotte that’s all of 1 minute long. Immediately switching to “Midnight Special “ that reminds us of the fast as fuck skate punk beginnings. I appreciate the Latin punk of “Sin Futuro”- tapping into that Latin punk scene that is so unforgivingly ignored by too many. “Benzos and Coke” tells us time goes by too quick whether you’re a family dude or a disenfranchised coke fiend - though I personally wouldn’t go the coke route since I could fit the bottle up my nose. (Insert dead laughter here) I get that life is fleeting no matter what you got. “Save Yourself “ a plea to those in the throws of depression and surrounded by similar people in that same situation but they are unable to help each other as they focus on helping themselves. “Kill your Ego” a sequel to the previous song that says what ever you’re using to heal yourself hasn’t worked- try something new or else…”Hate Season” There’s a broken and possibly shitty family dynamic at work here that I’m sure will be the subject of many more@songs to come. “Chaser” is my favorite song of the release- a not so thinly veiled poke at fascism and the current administration and wondering when the dipshits that voted for this will wake up and smell the 💩 or maybe have the velcroed wool pulled from their eyes. We all do man… we all do… I could go on. There’s lyrics that describe recovery, need for forgiveness, another cry for help, reluctant acceptance, and “suck it up or else” That bass riff on “Got Soul” is fantastic. The guitar and drums are frenetic throughout the release. I bet on stage, Raphika looks like an octopus when playing. There are deviations from earlier releases. “Turn It Up” and “Got Soul” have pop punk tendencies. Not bad just different. (1/2)
I kinda got inundated with requests for an unofficial release that hasn’t been unofficially released yet hypothetically… so now there will be 38 copies of “7 Glizzys For Your Face- the Live Demos” to steal at everyone’s sole inconvenience… instead of the meager 20…
In what is sure to be a true Nervous Breakdown In Progress, the first, albeit unofficial, EP by Peepshow should be available at the SMPA Punk Picnic. If you ask the Glizzy Triplets nicely, they may even autograph it for you…
