Joining the celebration of this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, we are glad to share our contribution, an experimental short film for the Hong Kong Pavilion.
This film, “A Picturesque Stroll (HK),” presents a midair meander through the footbridges of Hong Kong. The title cues Yve-Alain Bois’s essay, “A Picturesque Stroll around ‘Clara-Clara’,” which examined how architecture might be conceived from scenography as an alternative to static orthography. The discourse may be found unexpectedly relevant in the context of today’s AI video making. Despite the ability to generate convincing spatial experiences, it does not construct architectural spaces, but instead, cinematic, or Piranesian illusions that are consistent in time but incoherent in space.
This film is made with emerging AI video generation tools and real street views on Hong Kong. It samples images from online street views and use them as keyframes for AI tools to create ambiguous interpolations.
