The excitement of my favourite local soccer team playing exceptional
football made me think about this landscape of three players,
posing for a photo, or perhaps waiting for one.
They do not perform for the viewer. They do not smile for approval or dramatise resistance.
They sit side by side in quiet solidarity. No backdrop. No distraction. Just presence.

Neo Matloga features in 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 – 𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘺 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 @stedelijkmuseum .
Curated by @mirelva and @vanvelsenvincent , the exhibition selected 21 artists, all of whom use ‘photography in unique and innovative ways, thinking beyond the frame. Their work also attests to the impact of the image in our daily lives. Many of the works in 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 were created especially for the exhibition and will be on view for the first time. During the exhibition, the Stedelijk will announce which works will be acquired for the museum collection.’
The exhibition is on view until 23 March 2025!

Good afternoon!
I’m excited to share that two works from my exhibition Tomorrow is Another Day at Stevenson Gallery are dropping as limited edition prints— launching today with Black Copper Market.
Printed on lush Giclée Ilford Cotton Textured paper, each print is signed, dated, numbered, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity
Pictured here is 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘈𝘧𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘴, a piece that reflects the quiet tension and endurance found in the waiting ‘rooms’ of bureaucracy, where people seek recognition and legitimacy amid long, uncertain pauses.
This release is a continuation of the work, an offering for those who’ve sat with these moments, or simply want to hold them closer.

SERIES IN PROGRESS
Working on lithography film, I’m thinking about proximity, tension, and what it means to be held in line, together, but not at ease. On Freedom Day, I think less about resolution, and more about process.
Week 9 preparing for a presentation in 🇫🇷 working on linocuts, which is often described as a simple medium - black and white, line and ground but the simplicity is exacting. There’s no smudging, no reversal, no return. You cut knowing what you remove is gone. Some call it the suicide technique because every mark demands commitment. Details of the show will come later!
There’s no single reason why someone becomes an artist, or maybe there are too many. For me, it began with silence. I struggled to communicate verbally as a child, and painting became the language I could trust. In this short video, I reflect on that beginning and how those early moments still shape the way I work, feel, and make. Also some thoughts behind my current exhibition, Tomorrow is Another Day, now showing at @stevenson_za a in Johannesburg. On view till 25th October 2025
I’m deeply grateful for my time in Panama City, where I not only shared who I am and where I come from but also embraced the rich culture, history, and complexities that make this place unique. My experiences with people from diverse communities inspired me, shaping both the psychological depth and creative process of my work.
Here’s one of the large-scale works I created @casasantaana …
