Art-A-Whirl is a little over a month away, and some eagle-eyed pals have already caught that I had the good fortune to collaborate with @nemaamn on this year’s artwork! For years, NEMAA has partnered with member artists to create unique directory cover art, but this year they wanted to take a different approach and create a more comprehensive creative toolkit that could be used across a variety of touchpoints. I am so grateful that they tapped me for this opportunity, which married my love of illustration with my experience doing branding and visual identity as a day job for the last 10+ years. I wanted to take a whimsical, retro-inspired approach to this year’s event, using color to evoke the fun of discovery and creating community around art. NEMAA had the idea to illustrate AAW and NE-related ephemera, and I had such a good time sketching out the visual hallmarks of the weekend. There are just a few hours left in Day 2 of Art-A-Whirl, the largest open artist studio tour in the country, so don’t miss these hidden gems across Northeast Minneapolis tonight ✨ Keep the good times rollin’ with live music, LIVE TATTOOS, art vendors, and craft ciders at @sociablecider . Then gallop on over to @mnicecream for WRODEO DIVE featuring bull riding presented by @minneapolisrodeo alongside 30+ local artists, food trucks, and more 🤠🔥 Run don’t walk to @lisaeliasmetal behind the Waterbury Building for live music, art vendors, food trucks, and an outdoor art party. Don’t miss Cinema Red @pfunctionary main gallery in the Northrup King Building, in partnership with the artists and collectives behind @cinefilmufest . Then cap off the night by hopping over to @recoverybikeshop to borrow a bike for an hour or all weekend and roll with @sparcle.bike at 8:15pm tonight for a Disco Cowboy night ride through the Arts District.

It’s time for Fit Checks at Art-A-Whirl, the largest open artist studio tour in the country! SPEAK MPLS was out across Northeast Minneapolis taking in Day 1 fashion, and let’s just say…you did not disappoint. From thrifted threads and head-to-toe @parkwaypizzamn gear to gluten-free cracker @eat.rivalz hats, Temu ensembles, and @unclelloydkaufman wearing very important pants, the streets were serving equal parts art, chaos, and snack aisle couture. 😂 Art-A-Whirl is BACK, kids! Art-A-Whirl begins tomorrow! This art festival runs May 15th-17th and is one of the largest in the nation. Presented by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA). For the first time in 7 years, we are opening our doors to a small portion of our store. We will be open Friday 10 to 3 and Saturday 12 to 8. Quincy Street Northeast is going to be closed starting Friday, so plan ahead for parking.
