Somebody climbed up too high and got trapped on the neighbor’s roof and Pierre had to go rescue her. Quite a way to meet your neighbors. She was shaking like a leaf when we brought her down, and only crunchies would console her.
A strange trip to Québec City last weekend that could be summed up as ‘snatching defeat from the jaws of victory’. Or vice versa. Time will tell. In a revolving restaurant high atop the Hotel Heterosexual, I did a deep dive into Samuel de Champlain. Though he embarked on his first sea voyage before he was 20, Champlain waited until he was 36 to marry the 12-year-old Hélène Boullée. Their relationship was troubled and apparently lacked any physical connection. Hélène eventually returned to Paris to live in a monastery. Champlain, meanwhile, died in the care of his friend and confessor, the Jesuit missionary Charles Lallement, at the ripe old age of 87. [Raised eyebrow] I learned that the Canadian national anthem was first performed in Québec. I also saw some friends at the “Hyperréalismes” show at MNBAQ. Over ‘n’ out.
