Since I’ve become involved as a trustee of Tomorrow’sWarriors I’ve been blown away by the incredible work they do. Over 35 years some 20,000 young people have come through their programmes. Summer Runnings is a really important entry point for young musicians and today we’re launching a week long campaign to fund-raise for this brilliant two-week summer school. Help make @tom_warriors BIG free summer school happen. For just one week from 17-24 March all donations to Tomorrow’s Warriors @biggiveorg #ArtsforImpact match-funding appeal will be doubled.
So, with your support we can help make Summer Runnings 2026 happen and make sure even more young musicians have access to 2 weeks of free workshops, masterclass, and music industry advice sessions – providing a safe space for young musicians from diverse backgrounds to develop and grow as a community. Please see link in my bio to find out more and donate today. Thank you.

What a privilege it is to be appointed as a Trustee for Tomorrow’s Warriors. The Jazz Warriors - a legendary black British big band changed the UK jazz scene forever and for the good when they did-it-themselves and created a new sound, a new “platform” and a new movement in the mid 1980s. From loving that band I eagerly followed the many members - Orphy Robinson, Steve Wiiliamson, Courtney Pine, Cleveland Watkiss amongst them - who went on to make us feel so proud to be British Jazz fans and well, just to be British. One man took the learnings and spirit of that era and turned it in to something that would do nothing less than revolutionise British Jazz - Gary Crosby. Together and in equal measure with the phenomenal Janine Irons they created Tomorrow’s Warriors - an organisation, family and movement that has done more to democratise, energise and revitalise jazz than any other organisation in the history of music. As a music fan, radio host, producer and promoter it’s been awe-inspiring to watch the impact they have had on music and on musicians lives. It’s a lovely thing to now be given the chance to play a formal role in what is an exciting future for TW. The existing team is brilliant and again it’s a privilege to be joining them alongside Gloria Fagbemiro, Sian Lord-Baptiste, Erin Barnes and under the new Chair Tove Okunniwa. Thanks to Janine and Gary for the opportunity and for what you have done and continue to do for Jazz.
This morning on Jez Nelson’s Somethin’ Else (10am–12pm UK) ☀️
We’ll be celebrating the life and genius of the late Hermeto Pascoal, who sadly passed away this weekend. Jez will be playing plenty of Hermeto’s music and sharing a special 5-minute interview with him - a rare chance to hear the master in his own words.
Tune in live on onejazz.net or via the One Jazz app. 🌍✨
