UPCOMING! Nellie Lindquist “Make the World” 24.10 – 14.12.2025 Exhibition opening: 23.10., 7 pm In 1944, the OSS (Office of Strategic Services, a precursor to the CIA) created the Simple Sabotage Field Manual, a guide for civilians in Nazi-occupied Europe to carry out minor acts of disruption. Nellie Lindquist draws on this manual in her animated video featuring moths as unwitting saboteurs, flitting through a dark space toward a beam of light, obscuring the unseen projection. Installed like a billboard, the work extends into the gallery with illuminated lightboxes resembling propaganda tools, their ghostly glow recalling screens or displays. Nellie Lindquist explores how narrative fiction shapes our understanding of real power structures, especially in a world marked by authoritarianism and violations of international law. The manual’s childlike simplicity contrasts with today’s complex intelligence operations, yet its subtle power remains. With her exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Nellie Lindquist suggests even small, seemingly naïve actions can disrupt oppressive systems. Nellie Lindquist’s residency and exhibition are funded by the Danish Arts Foundation. @nellibabetti @statenskunstfond

excerpt from the ‘Simple Sabotage Field Manual’ ‘In 1944, the Office of Strategic Services, a precursor to the CIA, authored a remarkable document: the Simple Sabotage Field Manual, a 40-page list of instructions for “simple acts which the ordinary individual citizen-saboteur can perform.” […] Nellie Lindquist takes a most peculiar detail from this list of practical instructions as the starting point for her animated video, in which she employs a group of moths as the protagonists fulfilling the task of sabotage as laid out in the Field Manual.’ - from the exhibition text by Linnéa Bake @linnaeaeleonora Last week to catch my solo exhibition Make the World, on view until 14.12.2025 at @kuenstlerhaus.bethanien supported by @statenskunstfond

“Dark silhouettes dissolve into the blueish-gray tinted panels, illuminated by the cold glare of the LED installed behind the glass. Reminiscent of a phone screen’s glow scrolling late at night or a deserted window display, Nellie Lindquist’s sculptures appear as ghostly objects: like props taken from a movie set, removed from the continuity of the filmic reality they help sustain." from the exhibition text by Linnéa Bake @linnaeaeleonora Exhibition view, Make the World, 2025 Photo CHROMA @chroma.studioberlin Lullabies, 2025 120x92,5x9 cm Acrylic glass, UV foil, LED lights, printed foil, window film Gleam and Glare, 2025 120x92,5x9 cm Acrylic glass, UV foil, LED lights, printed foil, window film On view at @kuenstlerhaus.bethanien until 14.12.2025 as part of my solo exhibition Make the World, supported by @statenskunstfond
