In honor of Poetry Month, we’re spotlighting our very favorite poet, Diannely Antigua. Diannely is a Dominican American poet, educator, and the host of Bread & Poetry, a podcast that brings poetry to everyone: poets and non-poets alike. Diannely is the author of two poetry collections, Ugly Music (YesYes Books, 2019), winner of the Pamet River Prize and a 2020 Whiting Award, and Good Monster (Copper Canyon Press, 2024). Diannely served as the 13th Poet Laureate of Portsmouth, NH, the youngest and first person of color to hold the title. She currently teaches in the MFA Writing Program at the University of New Hampshire as the inaugural Nossrat Yassini Poet in Residence. Through Bread & Poetry, Diannely aims to demystify poetry and make it truly accessible to all, as part of a larger Bread & Poetry Project, a community initiative harnessing the belief that poetry, like bread, is essential and has the power to heal. While Bread & Poetry is no longer releasing new episodes, the conversations are timeless and well worth a listen. Past episodes are available on Apple and Spotify. Follow @nellfell13 and @breadandpoetrypodcast for updates on her work.

This year's poetry event is something new and different. Curated by Diannely Antigua, the event will feature readings by acclaimed poets Sara Deniz Akant and Myles Taylor as well as student poets from Exeter High School, followed by a moderated discussion among the group. Come support our local student writers and hear from two dynamic voices in poetry. Sara Deniz Akant is a Turkish-American educator and poet and author of, most recently, Hyperphantasia, winner of the Massachusetts Book Award. Myles Taylor is a transmasculine writer, organizer, educator, Capricorn-Aquarius cusp, glitter enthusiast, and author of the collection Masculinity Parable, which was shortlisted for the Nossrat Yassini Poetry Prize. Diannely Antigua is a Dominican American poet and educator, former poet laureate of Portsmouth, NH, and author most recently of the "revelatory" (Boston Globe) Good Monster.
